would this make for a good console?

I have a big enough piece of this Delrin sheet and nice and thick too. thinking , when i get my new gauges and switches , taking them out of existing encasement and adding them and the backing plates to create a very strong weather resist console. is this a good idea?

should i cut the floor back ?

I will most likely be using some sort of aluminum channel , making the door slide to port side with the piece of plywood i have now its half thickness of original track . so it will be a nice fit. .
