    Dead Batteries

While I have had many batteries go well beyond 4 years, when it comes up to 3 plus years on a battery, I watch them carefully, any sign of a problem, time to replace them. While batteries are not cheap, being stuck miles out with no power isn't a good day in my book!! My own batteries are...

OK for the spark plug gap to be slightly off from recommended?

Quicksilver has a new number as a replacement for the buhw-2 plugs, use that number to order plugs, but like I found out, the box containing the new plug numbers actually had the old buhw-2 plugs in the new boxes !

OK for the spark plug gap to be slightly off from recommended?

Why not the Quicksilver brand the mfg recomends ? In my experience, Champions only work best in OMC ( older type 2 stroke) engines, where NGK ( Quicksilver) seem much better in Mercury engines. To answer your question, the .002 difference in gap means nothing.

WARNING !! WARNING !! About brand new sparkplugs I bought.

In many years gone by, Champion were the go to plugs for OMC engines, other brands never seem to work the same or last as long. Just the opposite in Merc engines, and chain saws where NGK was the plug of choice. The Quicksilver plugs I know use are NGK with an extra Quicksilver decal.

    weird grounding issue

Switched over to the pos post on house battery, now the hull is at battery voltage all the time whether switch is on or off ! Did some further testing and found the wire harness going to the dash for accessories might be the culprit. When that harness is disconnected completely, there is no...

    weird grounding issue

The switch mounts to the battery post itself then has a threaded post to attach the ring terminals from the accessories. The battery is a group 29 deep cycle with posts and threaded posts on each side. The switch is just a knob that tightens to make connection or loosen to break the...

    weird grounding issue

OK....tried some additional testing after dinner. Looks like this issue took place after installing the switch. Test now show there is no 12.8v reading when the switch is on (battery on ) , but when the switch is turned off then the meter shows 12.8v going thru the hull. Before installing the...

    weird grounding issue

First off of thanks for responding !! All my accessories have inline fuses and a lead going to the house battery. I think I was doing what you suggested by removing one lead at a time from the battery, then checking, no change until all were disconnected ! Then I reversed the order and added...

    weird grounding issue

Yes, a start only battery and a house battery. I did disconnect the start battery and no change. It appears to me the house battery is the one charging the hull, but no idea how.

    weird grounding issue

I have disconnected the battery and of course nothing shows. In my mind, how is the pos getting to the hull ? Everything works, radio, ship/ shore, lights, bilge pump, live well pumps are plugged (don't use them), fish finder, etc.

    weird grounding issue

As I am not an electrician by any means, not sure I am wording this correctly, but hopefully the real electricians here can sort out my issue. Recently discovered what I call a parasitic draw on my house battery. Never noticed it before but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Recently my...

HOA rules say, no boats visible from the street,....

While I would never live in an HOA, I have been known to " stir the pot" on various things....I could picture a fence painted to look like a garbage dump !
