    Popped through the intake.

Thank you. I didn't run it terribly long on the trailer... basically brought it up to 1500 of so to warm up then set timing. It was pretty close for me stabbing it in at 1am. Think base timing ended up being about zero degrees. Before adjusting the timing I was getting a little burbling but...

    P.S.A. . . . SAE J2807 Towing capacity spec's

It's actually a decent standard all things considered. We had 2 company trucks from GM, one before and one after they made the switch. IIRC it dropped about 300lbs by adhering to the standard. They were same chassis/generation and engine configurations other than one being rated for j2807 and...

    Need Advice on Towing Performance

I agree with swapping props... Mine had a 3.0l in it forever. While not the best performer... and loud... it did it. It would do it with a boat full of people, and there were a few outings where while under weight, I really didn't think it would plane. It wasn't happy, but it did it. Every time...

    Carburetor question

My fix was 3 flat roller cam lobes and a couple cylinder bores and valves that looked like the surface of the moon. :( Glad it was something simple for you!

    Exhaust Manifold Question

I priced out a manifold and elbow set for my 4.3l with my local marina... about a $100 difference between the OEM parts and aftermarket... at this point in time... that's nothing. I was expecting much worse honestly.

So... engine should be done at the machinist next week. Basically, the amount of bore tapper it had he said there was no possible way it had as little use on it as the guy claimed, or the rebuild was crap. Crank pitted, bore looked like sand paper etc. Whatever happened he guesses from prior...

FACTORY PARTS..... a bit of a rant....

When I repowered in May, I pulled the original exhaust pipe out of the boat which still had the original 1984 flapper in perfect shape. It's not even cheaper to get the aftermarket parts unless you get the really really cheap parts... My point? It isn't worth not using OE parts... As far as...

    Merc prop selector

Merc also has a dealer demo program if you look on their site. I've never used it but know people who have.

    Merc prop selector

I actually run a non plus Mirage on mine (shows how old it is) and I've loaned it out to a few people to try. It runs damn well on mine and most others I've loaned it to, but these are all old design hulls. Both actually sought them out after because of how nice it worked. Some hulls just really...

    Popped through the intake.

Engine is pulled, at the machine shop and they have started working on it this morning. Maybe I'll get to salvage the tail end of the season. Pulling the exhaust manifolds off, there was water in both ports. I broke down the manifold and elbow and it would seem like a slight weep at the joint...

    Popped through the intake.

I have no clue. Freeze plugs were brass, all the gaskets I saw were merc part numbers but I didn't go deeper than that on it. Like I said, bought it used from a mechanic but... they'll say just about anything if it means making a buck and is one of several reasons I work on my own stuff. It came...

    Popped through the intake.

I've started putting feelers out for replacement... you know, now that the initial shock and pain of my own stupidity in purchasing a used "good" engine is over. Regardless my season is on hold or more likely over for the 19... Spent the last 2 days off enjoying some cold snacks at the marina...

    Mercruiser 5.7L Engine Hoist Recommendations

I recently used my cousins boom truck... even as an 1988 the control was plenty fine, it it wasn't like I was replacing same with same so we had to put it in and out several times to check clearance, get everything aligned etc... On the sketchy end, we've used a skid steer... I would not...

    Popped through the intake.

I have no idea. It was a "fresh rebuilt, low hour and ready to go" engine I purchased early may. Obviously, based on the fact I've had all of 5 hours put on the thing, I don't believe that to be entirely correct information. I can say I know of someone who won't be getting my business again...

    Popped through the intake.

Alleged fresh rebuild from the guy I bought it from. I had the pan off right before I installed it, from the bottom, everything looked brand new... one of the lobes has pitting... I'm kind of disgusted right now. Oil was clean both times I changed it... Ran maybe 9 hours before yesterdays...
