    Carburetor question

So carb works mint. And as far as the pink... 2 hours in the sun and it's completely gone. I didn't touch a thing. I've seen that pink away... we deal with those bacterial growths at work... that stuff ain't cheap when you have to do the whole boat.

    Carburetor question

I get that. It is 20 years old. But still, disappointing it more or less went from looking perfect to that overnight. I already called my buddy and he said drop it off and it'll all get replaced.

    Carburetor question

So I took the cover off this morning to get ready and like half of my vinyl in the boat turned pink.... Happened in 3 days. How, I don't know. Boat was dry, cover doesn't leak and it hasn't rained. Cover doesn't rest on upholstery either. A little disgusted and if this is the foreshadowing to...

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

Liner is pinned to 4 removable posts container walls sit around the plate on the drive, liner is floated up around like lifting up on a bag in a trash can to get higher water height. Yes it's ugly. Yes I'm tossing it. Edit: it's on the pile never to be heard from again. Sorry for completely and...

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

With it tucked all the down, about an inch above or so above the top of the trim rams. The goal was to make sure at startup the impeller measured below the water surface. Noted. Like I said, I've used it solely for testing the impeller and the 3 times now I've used it the impeller needed to be...

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

Yeah I figured after I cut down everything it's about 75 gallons.

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

Oh it's massive. Built it out of an old pool liner and some steel pool wall panels I had laying around. To answer another question, I needed something to do that was boat related one cold winter and wanted a little practice with a stick welder. No other good reason but that I was bored.

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

Which I normally do. However if I'm checking to see if my pumps working, I tilt it into a big old bucket full of water. Dumb idea? More than likely.

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

Forgot about the muffs... I usually use bucket when testing things like that. My bad.

Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

You could pull the hose at the thermostat housing from the drive briefly and start it real quick... should get a good stream of water...

    Carburetor question

I haven't seen one that bad in a long time. Glad it's running well. I'll get to testing mine on friday hopefully.

    Carburetor question

Your after shots are more or less what mine looked like when I opened it up. I had a little of the varnish in your bowl under the power valve jet. Nice job.

    Carburetor question

I did not bay test today. I had parade duty and the route went past the boat ramp I use. I took one look and said "hell no." I'm off Friday, we'll figure it out then.

    Carburetor question

So, a few observations I made when looking at the stripped carburetor: Float adjustment was out, not bad but not great. Also whoever adjusted it just twisted it so the dot lined up. The outside edge was correct, the inside edge sat about 1/4 inch higher... Not ideal. Also the old float seemed...

    Carburetor question

Kit is on the bench too. So far I've soaked the stripped air horn and cleaned in my ultrasonic tank... I didn't pull the plunger from the air horn as it moved nice and free and I didn't want to deal with peening the case again if not necessary. Gaskets all came off nice and clean, all mating...

    Carburetor question

So I've got it stripped down, jets are 1.55mm which from what little info I could find are the appropriate jets for the carb so that's good. As far as the power valve piston... it seems fine? moves freely anyway... Are there any other ways to test that part?

    Carburetor question

The carb has made it from the boat to the work bench next to the rebuild kit... If I get home tonight after work and it magically rebuilt itself I wouldn't complain. We'll see what happens when I pull it apart. Looking at the under side where the gasket/spacer are, it hasn't been gone through in...

    Carburetor question

    Yeah that's the one.

    Carburetor question

Yeah. I intend to check the fuel pressure... I'm not seeing any fuel dribbling into the carb from the vent or venturi like I had on my old engine when I rebuilt the carb... but you never know. Can't check anything until it's apart.

    Carburetor question

Think what I'll do is throw in a set of clean plugs, run it hard then pull the plugs to get a read on exactly how rich it is then go from there... I fell onto a 4 barrel carb and manifold cheap and may just do that if the jetting is off. That carb has all the correct parts in it still. Hopefully...
