    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

Same here. My previous boat had very stiff steering. I went through everything, including buying a snubber valve to check PS pump pressure. I had new style Merc power assist steering. Even though the steering effort was low with the cable disconnected there was enough resistance to interfere...

    Plane issue

What @briangcc said. Between no wake and planing speeds you boat is simply plowing. The faster you plow the more resistance and the stern drops more. Tabs or an anticavitation plate fin may help, but moving gear/passengers forward will probably help as much. .....mid engine inboard ski boats...

I've never used a penetrating grease. ...CRC aerosol power lube is my go-to.

94 chaparral 1930 ss with 4.3 prop help

Your '94 4.3 LX is 180 hp. Late '96 and on had Vortex heads and 190 hp. 14"-14.25" props are normal for your drive. Prop selection has trade offs. You want enough pitch to keep your WOT rpm under 4800 on your engine/drive. Your speed at WOT will be what it is. Pricey props may gain you a few mph...

    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

I'd first remove the cable end from the steering tiller arm and see if the steering wheel effort improves. There could be other issues with the gimbal ring pivots causing resistance. As far as removing, cleaning and lubing it I can only guess. I'd remove the cable from the boat if you can...

Fitting my Bunks to my boat

Per my theory above the Shoreland'r roller bunks look fine. It supports the transom below the transom and gimbal housings where the load is the greatest, and also appears to support the stringers/engine mounts. The overhang is nonstructural. Some boat builders specify four bunk trailers...

Fitting my Bunks to my boat

I agree with Grub above. Best practice is for your transom to be inside/forward of the bunks. ....Having said this, my current and previous Shoreland'r Equiload trailers are two bunk which have worked fine. But Shoreland'r bunks are fully adjustable which allowed me to get the rear of the bunks...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

It's been written...sorta. Australian boaters FB group. Carnage on the Boat Ramp. I joined. Lots of laughs. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2152747564940504/

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

The issue with the two ramps I use is the docks are short two sided river floats with room for one boat/side, and the ramp parking areas aren't large enough for one trailer lined up. So local protocol is the boat waiting at the dock gets the ramp. Any boat waiting for launch gets the next open...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

The etiquette is simple. Following it depends on the individual. Responsible boaters follow it. Slob boaters could care less. I liken a ramp to a four-way stop. First boat to arrive at the ramp gets the ramp, either launching or retrieving. Everyone knows their position in the queue. If it's a...

    In dash GPS speedo?

I had to ponder over @jimmbo 's remark, but I get it. I'll be doing speed runs/prop slip checks in the Miss. River, so I'll take the data points up and down river, and average the results. Per my OP my pitot speedo was significantly different than my phone's GPS. So I reckon a GPS speedo will...

    In dash GPS speedo?

I've thought about a fuel consumption monitor, but no real need. We mostly boat between two Mississippi river L&Ds, 19 mile pool with plenty of gas docks. ...wondering if a consumption monitor could be programmed in $/mile. But at today's gas dock prices that would just be a wet blanket on the...

    In dash GPS speedo?

It sets at 20 mph, then rises from there, and drops back to 20. Per my other comments, I'll spring for a GPS speedo and be done with it. Pitot tube speed readings are a general indication of fast or slow.

    In dash GPS speedo?

The pickup is in the front of the lower gear case. VP. Unlike my old Apha II the tube disappears into the gimbal housing somewhere. I followed it up inside the dash, disappearing into the speedo gage. No room to work, so I'll have to remove the speedo gage to remove the tube/hose. I can then see...

    In dash GPS speedo?

Thanks. Seems I was also confused. I decided to do some self help and found the same Faria p/n. ....looks like I'm set with a drop in replacement. I'm away from the boat for a few days. After I verify size and existing wiring I plan to order this.

    In dash GPS speedo?

Very happy with our new Regal 1900ESX. Like most pitot tube speedos, ours is off by a mile. I recently whacked some debris and plugged the lower unit pick up hole. I removed the plug and got a nice stream of water, but the gage is stuck at 20 mph min. So I'm looking at tearing into a brand new...

    How much trim?

At idle you can safely drive the boat with the trim up and not damage the drive. Your prop will come out of the water and stop moving you before you get the drive too high. My previous Alpha II boat had a trim limit. I often overrode it when in shallow water. My new boat is a VP SX. No trim...

Bearing grease / water leaked out on rim

The seal is pressed into the inside of the hub. It is supposed to ride on the largest, inside diameter if the spindle. Make sure that surface is rust free. If not try to polish it with 200-300 grit wet/dry paper. Bearings and seals are standard for any spindle size. If the bearings and races are...

    Check your furnace filter

I only know systems that have the filter at the air handler/furnace. None in the return air system upstream. Check you entire system for filter locations. Returns and the main air box. If your high limit switch is shutting you down you may have blocked air flow...return or supply. Make sure all...

When you guff your brand new boat....

Thanks Manitowoc ;). The gel gave itself up easily with 250 grit wet/dry. I knocked of the ridges and rough shaped the wounds. Then kept going until the tape edges surfaced, and removed the tape. Then it was a slow, two beer process sneaking up on the final contour.
