    198x SS-150 rebuild

Got after it again today and managed to get both consoles and the splashwell sanded down and cleaned up for paint. The PO used 3/4" for his shoddy floor replacement, so to accommodate the extra height he bent the hell out of the bottom of the consoles. There was no way to recover it, so I cut...

Repowering 1972 18' Starcraft SS Advice

If the floor was bad I would check the transom wood too, especially if you will be putting a new, heavy, 4 stroke on there, but if there are no leaks then I would say it's worth it. That boat is in great shape, and looks like a quicker turn around on your repair then a lot of us here!

    198x SS-150 rebuild

So I'm on vacation for this past week and next week, then back to work for a week, then another week off, but despite all the free time I'm continuing with the slow and steady approach to this project (mostly because I'm a bit lazy lol). While waiting for my Coat-It, which is now being delivered...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Replaced the floor bracing and managed to get the inside of the transom skin painted, I used Rustoleum SE primer, then Tremclad primer, then 2 coats of Tremclad in white. I didn't bother with hardener or rolling and tipping, this is just to help protect the once-full-of-holes-but-now-patched...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Been a hot minute, but I'm still around and my painfully slow progress continues! I got a bit discouraged last year about no riveting partners and the resulting lack of progress, so that plus the weather in Sep meant I just picked away at a few items and then packed everything up for winter...

    New Journey

I actually kept the bar that the rollers are on and just bolted the board to the top of that. My transom will be about 18" back from my cross member and I wanted to make sure the 2x4 bunk was supported as far back as possible due to the engine weight. No bunk bracket required and the bunk is...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Due to a pantry makeover project that I started this weekend (and is still ongoing) I haven't gotten too much completed, but I did get the two new patches on from the leaks I found and then did another leak test. With only the bow seam still dripping slowly I was ready to move on, but it turns...

Roger to both, no 5200. Does Coat-It seep into seams like Gluvit? Coat-it is 30% cheaper and materials on this project are adding up.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Oh, sorry, I think I didn't explain well. I wanted to do 5200 on the outside of the seam where the bow keel plate meets the hull sides (see picture below, there is also something already there like that, not sure if from the factory or a PO), but then use gluvit on the inside of the seam. If I...

    1966 starcraft 18ft holiday restoration

Wefco makes a rubrail, not sure about a 66 model but a lot of the Starcrafts use profile 101G. http://wefcorubber.com/PDF/marine/Rub-Rail%20Inserts.pdf I think for decals it will have to be new ones.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Would it cause problems or is it just not required? Not sure if it was the PO or the factory but there is a sealant bead along the how seams right now.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Back from vacation yesterday, it was nice to see all my family and their little ones but I am always happy to be home. Got the last 12 rivets in on the front seat braces, and did a leak test. I strapped the hull to the trailer in the hopes that the trailer weight would get it farther under...

    New Journey

The "Tinyboat Nation" folks with jon and flat bottom boats love using aluminum for the floor, but they must be shelling out an arm and a leg for it.

Help! Looking for info on my boat-which model is this?

Do you happen to have a side picture? The first pic didn't load. I don't have the 1976 one, but the 1975 brochure has a 22' I/O Holiday, does this resemble yours?

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Finally some riveting success! Got my gf's son to help me today and managed to get all 12 chine braces riveted on, and I also got all floor cross braces notched out and riveted to the ribs and stringers. Only a few more rivets in the front left seat braces and then a couple randoms and this...

    New Journey

Looking good, that's a hefty plate on the transom! Great to see the smiles on the young ones, that's really the point of all of this :)

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I finished putting the OTF on the transom, it took 4 coats on the first side and 3 on the second side, the edges and holes got a total of 7 coats. Now I have to wait a week or two for that to dry/cure and then I can put on the 3 coats of spar varnish. I also managed to get my nephew to help and...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Continued plugging away at random items while I wait for riveting help. I did manage to rivet on the patch at the top left corner where it was split by myself, but left handed gun action meant I got a few smiley faces on the rivet heads. Not a big deal, it should be plenty strong. Once that...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I would have to remove the knee brace for this, right? Not sure if the bucking bar would fit while it's still on the hull?
