    Installing a new asphalt driveway

So, there was "some" progress made today. There was also some conflict, confusion and decisions made as well. But progress is progress. ;) I only had 2 loads of dirt brought in this morning, instead of the 3-4 that I needed. The primary reason for the shortfall was that my existing...

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

Wellsir, my only relationship was as a new customer. That seems to be changing now with Company #1. Time will tell. The Company #2 guy told me that he wasn't able to deliver the load the way I wanted it, even if the soil would have been firm enough. Next!

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

Well, we had conflict, but also resolution, at the gate this morning. Both delivery companies showed up at exactly the same time at 0740 this morning. Ugh. I wasn't even alive yet. 😴 😔 :coffee: The guy in blue (from company #2) was upset and asked me why I had 2 companies...

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

Yeah, I'm learning about that. :cautious: I'm not one of those anachronistic Neanderthals who doesn't know how to use a phone for anything but talking and taking notes with a pen and paper. I like putting stuff in writing anyway. Maybe that's why some guys don't like texting.

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

Yup. Bidness driven. But a text saying that they're swamped and have X amount of days lead time would be nice. One asphalt guy I know has a 2-week lead time and another one has a 3-month lead time! o_O I got a call from one guy this evening, then a text from the other. They're both...

    1987 ss16

I have a 50HP Mercury on my Kingfisher. Awhile back I was researching replacement hoses and found that the Sierra 18-2111 was in fact the right part. But pricey! Like $65 each. So, I obstained and just kept the old ones. Meanwhile, a couple weeks ago I needed replacement hoses for my...

    19?? Starcraft Jetstar

Oh man, that stinks. I can relate... back in 1992 I bought a 1966 Mustang where some previous owner had wired the power to the radio to the "High" position of the heater fan motor! So, the only way to turn it on was to put that fan on high. Ugh! That was a real mess to straighten...

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

I'm in the middle of a driveway project and have had a couple of loads of dirt delivered in the past several weeks. But now I'm ready to really start cranking up and getting several loads at a time in a short period. I've called or texted several delivery companies but they sometimes don't get...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Thanks for that info, very helpful! Last night I went over to my friends house and spent an hour checking out his pavement and talking about his projects and mine. It turns out that when the asphalt company showed up last week, he decided that he wanted to expand his job and changed the...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Yes, it is. Mine will be similar in overall square footage. But I'm not sure that I'll use my neighbor's contractor. The quality of the work doesn't meet my standards.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

I went over this afternoon and had a good look. The asphalt is very thin at the edges; maybe 1/2" thick. Not good. I saw one place which had been run over from the grass to the asphalt and it was already broken/smooshed down. And that was from a single track of a GMC Tracker, a light car.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Duh. I forgot to hit "Post" on this last night. I'm home! 😁 And the first thing I did was to check out my neighbor's paving job, even before I went to my house. 🤓:ROFLMAO: In person, it looks much better than in the pix that I posted earlier today. This evening I took a...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

If you look at the pix in Post #46, it looks like my neighbor's pavement was joined with a square abutment at the center. From the pic, it looks like the two outer side pieces are then sloped down toward the edges, getting thinner along the way. And at the edges, it looks like they piled up...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Well guys, the project came to a screeching halt this week. I'm in the hospital again. Been here 4 days. Ugh. After we got the retaining wall done last week, we took the weekend off and did fun stuff but I did order dirt to be delivered this week. That obviously didn't happen...
