    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Haha, no problem! It has been a while since an update, I went camping and got caught up in some other activities. Anyways. And right now I am just painting the floor pieces. I thought about doing a nice epoxy plug system for the rivets but decided I was happy with drilling the holes in...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

The self retained plug is going to be amazing. In my old boat, the brass rubber turn plugs always broke on me. This last weekend I finished up putting in the rest of the solid rivets. The plan is to take it to the lake this weekend and see if it leaks. If it somehow doesnt leak I will be...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Thanks guys! I made up my mind and put in a stainless drain plug dead center. covered it in sikaflex and let it set up briefly and then tightened it down a little bit and am waiting for it to cure, then I will do a final tighten. Great drain plug. should never lose that thing. I put the...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Hopefully that's only something I say on land! Recently I have swindled my sister into coming over and riveting with me in return for boat rides. We have riveted all the patches, so all that's left is any rivets that were removed because of corrosion. I think we probably set around 150 or so...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Got the major patches on! Everything just needs to be riveted now Also managed to find 3" X 2' X 8' XPS foam for 35CAD per sheet on facebook marketplace. Picked up 10 sheets which is roughly 1500lb of floatation. Had some funny looks driving home with it hahaha.

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

I bought my rivets from hanson rivet in the states. It cost me about 80 CAD dollars, shipped to my door, for 1000 2117T4 rivets and a rivet set for my pneumatic hammer. Thanks for the suggestion about the vinegar I will look into that. I made and attached the brace patch today. That leaves the...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Little update from today. I preped all the patches and got 8 out of the 11 small ones put on. other than that there is the large bilge area patch that needs to be done still and 2 spray rail patches. I cut them out, rounded all the corners, and filleted the edges to at least lower drag a little...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Thank you both for the answers. I have quite a bit of free time now, so the plan is to have this boat in the water this summer, maybe not in a fully finished state but at least useable. For the patches they are 1/16" 5052 and will be put on using below waterline sikaflex and solid 3/16" rivets...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

So, it's been a very long time since an update. Between school ending and the pandemic starting its been pretty hectic. Anyways... I have been working on it whenever I have time. Here's an update. Last I remember, I removed the Z-brace for the tansom and started cleaning everything up. I sand...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

I did a quick read through his whole thread. it looks like he was going to use hydrochloric acid but decided to use phosphoric which makes more sense. I believe what I am going to do is media blast the pits with ground glass/quick clean with phosphoric acid and rinse and then immediately fill...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Very interesting! I wont be boring holes in the ribs then. I have managed to spray out all the rivets anyways now. I started off by deciding I would wire wheel the whole interior, but that seems like it would take quite awhile and if there is no pitting then I would be rubbing off the...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Haha, yes what an ugly mess. Sorry for the long period of no posts. I am back in school for my last semester. I am still getting things done, just not as fast. So far I have completely finished stripping the outside of the boat. I have also purchased a stainless crimped wheel to clean all the...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

very interesting. I have noticed that the bracing that has all the extra rivets going through it looks a bit hammered and what not. I think maybe one of the rivets behind the brace was leaking so the PO decided to re rivet all the way through? I'm not sure. Today I touched up the bottom side I...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Very interesting about the bracing! After more stripping I have found 3 or 4 areas of corrosion that have pin holes to fix. one area that is quite bad is around a brass through hull intake that the PO put on it... so that will probably be a large exterior patch area. There are also some areas...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Hmm, very interesting. I guess we will see what happens when I get to leak testing! This weekend was somewhat productive. I feel like paint stripper doesn't work nearly as well in sub 50F temperatures, but I got one side down to a nice smooth finish. Also I have continued to clean the...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Thanks for the advice! When I get to flipping it I will try that. I was skimming over the pictures I have posted and noticed something quite weird. The brackets that reinforce the edge of the chine/wall on one side are riveted straight through and then on the other side are only riveted above...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Yeah its 3/4". It wasn't glued down. Just lightly held by drilled out rivets. I removed the floor and have started cleaning out the boat. Here is a before and after. Slowly I am getting there. The other side of the boat is partially stripped from the PO. I should be able to get most of...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

It's quite cold, so I have only been working on it for a few hours so far. I found some aircraft stripper. The bad stuff with DCM in it. It removed the paint quite easily, but I am not sure how willing I am to work with it because of its toxicity. I have neoprene gloves and a respirator, but I...

    1976 Mariner Rebuild

Identification of a Starcraft Hi guys, I have found a bare Starcraft for sale that needs the transom put back on and probably leaks. The person is asking 800 CAD with a trailer. Both have no papers but I guess I could figure that out later. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could identify...

    1977 20HP Evinrude 2S Manual?

The serial number is 207B62S C86036. I have been looking for a proper manual on this motor, but I havent found much. I found a manual on emanualonline called "1973 - 1991 Johnson Evinrude Outboard motor repair manual" but I am not sure if this is the correct manual. Any help would be greatly...
