Timing is set at 2* ATDC (yes after not before)
This is the procedure but use 2 ATDC instead of what the procedure shows

The second pic seams to be coming from the exhaust and is a Tan wire. Might be Tan/Black and if so it goes on the exhaust overheat...

It has a thermocouple which only allows the pilot light to stay lit, need more to open the valve further. Fireplace valves are variable, not like a furnace which opens to a specific size when called upon
Needs to have a power source to control gas valve. If heat is removed need something to turn valve off. Fireplaces have motorized gas valves controlled by thermostat, not like a gas stove
