    Islander gas tank support

I would find some way not to use wood in the very bottom of the hull that supports fuel. Wrapping in glass is not going to keep away the rot forever, I'd use aluminum with padding as part of the tank sits on the ribs. My 18' V5 had a 2x4 under the aluminum tank bed that laid on the center of...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Sorry yeah, must of had too many things going on in my head and didn't explain. The transom TM mount with a pole that has a transducer on the end. I've seen the Minn Kota and Hummingbird, they clamp onto the transom using a TM mount so zero hole drilling.

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Nice, an early 70's model and now comes the hull clean up and repair phase that takes the longest most times. I mention this to most of the early pre hull brace SC owners that they should consider adding them to their boats to keep them from suffering from future side splitting issues at the...

    Islander gas tank support

What's your tank look like, is it a V bottom or flat?

You can always get a TM transducer mount for an up front unit. I would love to have that little tractor, nice score.

    1978 22' V5 Super Sport CC

Welcome to the Starmada, great find and not all can be an original perfect garage find. Some people shouldn't own a drill or sawzall. The more 78's I see worked on the more I realize that SC had a solid rivet issue that year, my 78 V5 needed a bunch of rivets replaced, I lost count...

    New to me 16ft Starcraft!

If you haven't done so yet, start a thread in the main SC section and ask questions there. Forum members are more apt to provide links and details for you there.

    21' Holiday Rebuild

Once that new decking goes in things tend to progress very quickly from there on out, it won't be long now and just in time for spring. (y)

Islander/Chieftain project ponderings. Building the ultimate big water Starcraft?

The singing of twin TOPs is one of the best sounds man has created. Started the video in several minutes to get to where he opens her up.

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

The entire replacement of the skin I've seen has only involved leaving the existing rivets and cutting around the edge leaving good material to fasten the new AL in it's place. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Most would give up while others persevere and become fixtures here at the...

    Water in bilge.

Welcome aboard, Boats especially glass ones will rot from the bottom up. I would imagine there's some rot going on below deck in the plywood stringers.

    New Journey

Transom height for the motor shaft on an 18'r is 20" and that's from the center top of the transom to the bottom of the V so yeah under 24". The issue you'll have is the transom also extends up to the tops of the gunnels and that's why SC did the 3 part transoms. Although some guys have used the...

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

The AL transom skin appears to be eaten up badly by corrosion, I would consider a total skin over. The bottom part concerns me the most on how to cover over that large eaten up area, even by a skin over. Post a pic of the inside, it usually looks the worst as that's where it starts on it's way...

Nice to catch bass during the warm months but through the ice, that's fantastic! That little Merc sure looks clean as whistle.

Maybe not the best in this case, vinegar works great for minor pitting and total AL cleaning to neutralize normal corrosion. You may need to go to something a little stronger in the acid dept. Since I've not used any acid I'll defer to others who have like @classiccat.
