Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI missing only at 3000 rpms

Interesting I’d say the center insulator makes it look like it’s running lean but the steel shell looks like there are carbon carbon deposits or maybe oil. What’s your engine temp & how’s the oil consumption?

1994 Chris Craft Concept 197 Bimini Top Question

My Four Winns had those same mounts, they are for the convertible top which mounted to the front of the windshield. You can’t use those for a Bimini top because the normal movement of it will stress the side window/frame. What I did was mount slider brackets on the coaming panels and mount the...

    Frustrating Cooling System Issues

If you don’t have raw water flow from your heat exchanger to the exhaust system you can overheat and that water should be going out the exhaust ports on the outdrive or else you will overheat. The raw water flow is what picks up the heat from the antifreeze in the heat exchanger. So in a...

Clever way to dry dock test new bellows for leaks

I know when Volvo came out with the replacement for the ocean series drive one of the features that was to be included was a moisture sensor inside the bellows. I don’t know if this made it to production or not but it’s an interesting idea for sure. I guess I’ve been lucky but I haven’t had...

older carburetated mercruiser 5.7 hard start

In some cases I guess you might be able to get it off the starter without removing it, but you'll just have to do what you have to do to get in there. On my boat I remove the driver side of the rear seat and the wood partitions and then slide the battery backwards and I can get at it. Looks...

1989 Sea Ray 200 BR Interior rebuild and new layout

The boat builders are definitely at fault as well, they did all they could to stuff in more seats, and features, all of which are in the way of mechanics. That made the maintenance more difficult, time consuming and expensive. You CAN design it for easy access for most things, all it takes is...

1989 Sea Ray 200 BR Interior rebuild and new layout

I’m getting anxiety thinking about doing a starter or God forbid a steering actuator with a set up like that. Even the oil filter if not remote will be difficult. It looks great and has a lot of seating but if you do all your own work the dog house is the easiest way to go. I have the full width...

That's what I thought. You call PSEG LI and you have 2 options, either report a service outage or report a downed wire/emergency To get to talk to a person, I had to do #2 even though it's not an emergency A truck came by last nite, don't know what they did this morning it was up to 119V Now...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL PWTR - severe overheat - thought I was on fire - troubleshooting Questions

Let us know how it goes. The true test is taking it up on plane for a while & watching your engine temp & oil pressure and checking for water in the oil…I remember doing that with mine, I was skeptical because it was the first time I ever took apart an engine….. but it all worked out….

My pool is at about 85* right now air temp about 95*. Something odd maybe related maybe not; lights in the house were dim; I plugged in my AC volt meter and the house voltage ranged from 105-108v! Called PSEG Long Island and they took care of it. Not sure what the cause was or if it was heat...

    Engine water flow issue

what about your thermostat housing? it also depends on what Merc cooling system you have, there is the cool manifolds system where water is fed constantly from the 'stat housing to the bottom of the manifolds then up to the elbows, and the warm manifolds system were there are separate feeds for...

New Starter for 4.3l 3 post solenoid

On another board (Bayliner?) there was a discussion on finding a marine PMGR starter with a metal ring gear, but I don't recall what came of it. I asked the tech guy at ARCO about this and he didn't feel it was a significant issue. I replaced the old direct drive Delco style with an ARCO about 5...

Mercruiser 3.0 overheated, Is my motor shot?

Hot exhaust passes thru the lower unit and I do think that the water tube gaskets can soften or melt if you lost all cooling water. That's how the thru the prop exhaust works...thru the lower unit...
