Any advice on a starting battery and rectifier/regulator for a 1990 Force 120HP

What I used: twin batteries both the same size. Minimum 450cca. I used 650 or 800cca even 1000cca. The bigger the longer they last when the boat has lots of 12v accessories #4 or #2 wire with good copper connectors. Using a deep cycle battery on an outboard can potentially cause issues with...

My flywheel came apart at the bottom where some metal blades are stacked together any idea why?

Wow never saw that one. That part of the flywheel is what makes the spark happen when the magnets(tiny little brown strips)(color of the big magnetic strip)pass the trigger pickup. That spot can be damaged easily and then come apart when the motor spins. 2nd flywheel: do a good inspection and...

    1986 85hp force 856X6L no spark

Using a deep cycle battery on an outboard can potentially cause issues with the charging system if not managed carefully, but it's not a guaranteed problem. Deep cycle batteries are designed for sustained power delivery, not the high current bursts needed for starting. Using them to start an...

    1986 85hp force 856X6L no spark

From what I've learned over the years: The trolling/deep cycle batteries(even hooked up right) can cause damage to the charging system?? Now I'm not 100% convinced this is true??? But I've never used a deep cycle on any of my boats. I'd try to contact CDI and see if that story is true??? "TECH...

    Force 125

Post pics of the lower unit, the drain and the side where the fill/vent screws are and the shifter you have. With those pics we can elaborate more and explain better the steps you need. The first 5 posts in this section have a lot of info pertaining to the Force outboards: look through them.

Testing a pack: http://www.outboardignition.com/ Troubleshooting the CD Module 1. DVA readings should always be taken with everything hooked up. 2. Check for broken wires and terminals, especially inside the terminals. 3. Check the flywheel for broken or loose magnets. 4. Disconnect the kill...

    Force 40 issues

The way it's set up: you'll have to hold it in place . Does it pop out of gear when the linkage is shifted up?

Electronic distributor made a buzzing sound

Honestly I know very little about the older ignitions. When I started working on outboards all I did was the newer stuff starting at 1984. Here's a link to Mastertech Marine, Guy named Bill Kelly answers the tough stuff, Good luck!!! https://maxrules.com/ChryslerModels/chrysmodelindex.html

    Force 40 issues

Like Nordin said: unhook the cables and shift by hand, do it in the water and have someone helping to turn it off if needed. IF???? it pops out of gear when the cable is unhooked??? The dog and maybe the gear is bad. Both can be machined to square off themating surfaces.

    Ugly Impeller

I had about 8/9 Forces with the groove in the shaft. It never bothered anything. Now a Mercruiser sterndrive?? It was so deep I had to seal it with JB or Marine Tex, Goop it up and put in a lathe and sand it down smooth. Lasted for ever.
