    On my Orca (SJE) heat exchangers, the anode was more than 50% gone after 3-4 months. The H.E., being copper is fairly high in the nobility scale, IIRC. but as you say, not a bad idea to add one if possible.

    I'll take a look next time out on the boat to see what the threas look like and how much space there is within. there is nothing on the Mercruiser parts list that indicates an anode (I find that strange)

    Yup, I figure that it is only about 35% of the annual cost of ownership. I usually try to put about 80-100 gallons in on land before launching and then do some replenishment from jugs. With $1.50/gallon extra at the marina, there is a bit of an incentive to do the schlepping.

    I got the controls hooked up today . . . The shift and throttle levers on the engine itself are a bit stiff, but that will be a project for another day. . . Also added a solar charger to keep the batteries fresh. . . Next up is swapping out the old axle/wheel assembly for the new one.

    BTW - got a serial number for the engine? (I might have missed it) Is it really the 4.3 and not the 4.5?

    I've learned the hard way that as soon as an engine does not crank, pull the spark plugs check for water and see if it cranks with the plugs out. Also, you can pull the outdrive for further isolation of the issue.

    I'd just go with a longer hose to get a taller loop and see how that goes. Not sure a check valve for a bilge pump line is the best thing, as Murphy's law will prevail.

    I recall when I pulled the 454 BB from my Formula 242, my supply of wrenches and other tools was replenished from all the tools that I had dropped in the bilge and could not reach. Having the engine out of the boat is a good time to give the bilge/engine bay a make-over.
