    Welcome Folks have had a lot of problems from Pertronix so I would not recommend them for marine applications. I would suggest Delco EST Kit Delco EST You don't need non-resistor plugs, you won't get any benefit from them other then the coil drawing more current and burn out sooner

    Most likely Merc only makes the oval, but just guessing right now. The shutters don't need to block 100% of the water flowing backwards, just needs to slow most of it so it doesn't make it back up to far

    Don't think it's a direct short to ground, just something slowly starts drawing more current until fuse blows. This could be many things With the Tach showing weird signs I would disconnect the 12V lead to gauge and put a amp meter inline between wire and gauge.

    If your motors are raw water cooled (no heat exchanger) it would have 160* Stats. Those with heat exchangers would use a 180* The boat gauge is not 100% accurate
