    Gulp Baits?

We're heading for the S.C. coast for Thanksgiving weekend and plan some fishing in the Ashley tidal river(Salt/Fresh Mix). I have several bags of those stinking Gulp Baits(Freshwater and Saltwater), look like big rubber shrimp. I've been trying to use these things for several years and have...

    Ford Spark Plugs?

I've been mulling over the idea of a Ford F-150 Pickup Truck to pull my boat with, but have read some horror stories about some tricked-out, 2 piece, long-reach spark plugs in their V8's that break off in the heads when you try to change them. It's apparently been a real design flaw and a major...

    Bunk Carpet for Jon Boat

My jon boat trailer has original factory intalled carpeted bunks, but the carpet is beginning to show some wear(1999), so why not just rip all the carpet off and have the bare wood against the bottom of the hull and save my time, trouble and money or recovering with carpet? What you guys...

Learned something about weak car battery

We dragged the boat to florida last week with my Roadmaster/350V8, battery was acting sorta weak, but maybe O.K. for trip? I noticed the engine missing some on the I-95 on the way down. Long story short, when we got down there the battery was dead and I replaced it, and motor runs fine again...

    Wiring Harness Inspection

My motor is a 1999 90HP 2 stroke 90C, and I notice in my Yamaha Manual it says to unplug, inspect and clean all those connector pins inside that big black rubber wiring connector just inside the cowling. I've never done this and think "maybe let the sleeping dog lay", since I've had no problems...

    Bigfoot

O.K., I'll admit to being totally intrigued by all this Bigfoot/Sasquatch stuff, and I'll admit that I really believe that there is such a critter, but seems to be widely differing opinions, from,"it's all a bunch of malarky" to "I saw Bigfoot last night in my backyard". What you guys think?

    St. Johns River,Fl. cruise

Well, tomorrow AM the wife and I gonna drag the boat to Welaka, Fl. for our yearly 6 day cruise down the St Johns River, from there to Sanford and back is about as close to heaven as I've seen, we camp on the boat, check out the wildlife and gators, maybe have a beer or 2 with some P-nuts. I...

    new boat cover

I'm just reading about a new draw-string type waterproof fabric mooring cover made in New Zealand by Cover Systems Intl., that has a small solar panel stitched into it, wire runs to boat battery, maintains battery charge! Pretty slick idea! iBoats maybe gets some of these?

    Pennzoil-Walmart

We stopped by Walmart in Amelia Island, Florida this weekend to buy some Pennzoil 100% Synthetic Outboard Motor Oil, which is usually $27/gallon, the guy confirmed that Walmart would not be carrying the 100% stuff any more, only the Synthetic Blend. He had his Pennzoil 100% on sale for...

    antique outboard motors!

Holiday visit with family in Tallahassee, fl., too cold to fish, went to the local Tallahassee Antique Car museum, found they have over 200 mint condition/restored antique outboard motors, Watermans, Evinrudes, Mercurys, Johnsons, many brands I've never seen or heard off, a really great thing...

    Surface Gap Spark Plugs?

I've always used the NGK B8HS10 spark plugs in my 90HP Yamaha with no problems, but read occasionally about these surface gap plugs without the "hook-type" ground electrode, and just wondering what is the advantages or disadvantages of these plugs? I believe some airplanes use surface gap plugs...

    water pump test?

I did a routine water pump impeller replacement on my 1999 Yamaha 90C a couple of weeks ago and everything went fine and motor is peeing like normal. Can I effectively test the water pump/cooling by running on muffs, in a barrel, or do I need to take the boat to the lake to be dead sure? We're...

    new water pump!

Finally got up the nerve to replace the water pump impeller on my 1999 Yamaha 90C yesterday, and have to admit that it really wasn't the tough job I thought it might be, especially after getting all the instructions, tips and information from all the guys on this forum.....I really appreciate...

    Best Bolt Sealant?

I'm doing the water pump replacement on my 1999 90HP Yamaha and wondering which sealant for those main bolts that holds the lower unit on? I've heard marine grease, spline grease, Loctite, teflon pipe compound, anti-seize compound, etc. Which one is the best? Thanks for your ideas on this.

    spline grease

O.K., got up the courage to change the water pump impeller on my 1999 90C Yamaha. Some instructions mention "Yamaha Spline Grease". I have plenty of Spray Lithium Grease, Green Marine Grease, Heavy black CV Joint Grease, but no specific "Spline Grease" for the drive shaft splines and shift shaft...

    speedo tube

In dropping the lower unit to replace the water pump impeller, it says to cut the speedo tube and then replace it back on re-assembly. I don't use that speedo tube or even have a speedometer, so would it be O.K. to just plug that tube or tie it off. What's the purpose of it being there? Thanks...

    99 Yamaha 90 motor flush

My 1999 Yamaha 90C is mostly freshwater but ran it all last week in salt water at the coast and was thinking of flushing motor with 30 gallon drum of fresh water with maybe a gallon of vinegar for 30 minutes, then neutralize with some baking soda. This would be a mild flush but might be good to...

    99Yamaha fuel pump

Well, I broke down and bought a new fuel pump for my 1999 Yamaha 90HP 2 stroke. My old pump is still working fine but my question is this: go ahead and put new pump on and keep old pump for a spare or wait for old pump to die? You guys got any ideas on the life of these pumps? Thanks for any...

    90C fuel pump replacement

My 1999 Yamaha 90C 2 stroke runs fine, never replaced the fuel pump. Should I buy a new pump and put it on, keeping the old pump for a spare, or buy a new pump and keep it in my tool box and wait for original pump to wear out/die, or just forget this and assume the pump will keep on running...
