    You will want to check your tester....they didn't leave the factory that hi. Edited. I just redid a Johnson 35.... Cut some wire off an old harness for the proper color wires and rewired the powerhead pretty quick. 3 hours or so.

    If your out that far from spec then something is still wrong. Are your settings different from one side of the engine compared to the other side?

    500 RPM's is to slow. Sometimes higher than after you run it it goes down?

    Ignition coils and power packs are aftermarket? I would do a spark jump test.... Could you have messed up the carbs?

    No twin cylinders and crush pads. I'm staying with tilt only. Maybe others will confirm and I will have learned a new thing.

    Do a cylinder test ....(Pull plug wires while running) Sounds like 2 cylinders are down....test to confirm. (Wet plugs electrical, dry plugs fuel) Report back and people can tell you what to do next.

    Best I can do is tell you that's an 80's motor....now is this yours or the other one? If we can see both maybe we can identify compatibility. Pictures under the hood would help identify as well.

    If it was "jerking in and out of gear" in both forward and reverse than I'd say you have the linkage adjusted wrong. Small chance it's your prop....you would hear the motor wind up though. Oil won't save it if the dogs are rounded off.

    There's quite a few years and lots of hp range....25, 30, 35hp. Easier to look at the parts breakdown if you see or hear of a motor for sale. You understand that the lower end failed because you didn't check and maintain it right? It takes awhile for water to ruin it. Change your gearcase oil...

    I said it didn't look like anything the coast guard uses not that's not a ex-coast guard boat.... I even complimented the walk around deck. People read comments and miss take the body of the message. Good luck with your motor.

    Amperage goes up but voltage is negligible. Rectifier works with the battery to stay within limits. Some of it is above my pay grade. It will get over 13 volts.

    You don't see much especially at idle. I hook up my meter and watch it slowly work it's way up. It's not like a car.
