    Yes you can.----But post the compression test results on the 110 HP before you do all the work.

    Correct it is a 2 stroke and a wonderful motor.----A 4 stroke would have a dipstick. oil sump , and a cam timing belt.

    Perhaps you bought someone's problem motor.----Here a motor like that would have the cylinder head off in a matter of minutes for inspection.----These motors have a history of leaking exhaust cover gaskets.-----This becomes an issue with internal rust.-----A head gasket is CHEAP

    I gave instructions for an 88 model , that were correct.----But oh so often I see people posting here with no knowledge of what they actually have.----Lotsd of motor out there for sale with motors listed as 10 years newer then they are.----Was true 50 years ago as well !!

    Time to take the lower unit apart.-----These lower units are very rugged and easy to service.-----My opinion and some will argue that.----Install a seal kit as well.

    It is a 2 piece driveshaft.----And yes when it is not installed and held in the center it will leak !!-----It is held in place ( centered ) by the crankshaft.

    Taking lower unit off is dead easy.----On a 1988 model 70 HP you need a pair of needle nose pliers to remove a hitch pin.----Then push lever on motor to port side and rotate.----Shift rod is now disconnected.----Very easy and quick !
