    it should run jus fine without tha limiter.. not all stators are gonna have a "black" wire.. depends on brand/manufactor.... All are grounded thru tha frame so any part of it thats bare steel serves tha same as tha black...........

    any and all of tha 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 from tha very beginning (1976) to present will all interchange.. most 2.0's gad 2 ta 1's where most 2.4/2.5's were 1.87 ta 1 (yours)... buy used and its a crapshoot.... XRI, first badging for fuel injection.. EFI same, same.... jus later year badging... all XR4...

    can you see a WH number stamped on tha carb flange? tha WH is cast in and tha following number will be a hand stamp.. should be on tha flange on top of tha carb.. thats what ya need ta determine what size jets are supposed ta be in it....

    JAN.. in case your warnin' buzzer/horn is remotely mounted under tha dash and not in tha shifter control box it could possibly have a tan wire goin' ta it.. should be a tan/black but not always.. some seem ta have escaped with a plain ole tan to 'em.. leave it be.. should be a tan thats not...

    I understand for sure... got a lotta dead brain cells in this 'ole noggin' myself... temp gauges (tha ones that read metal ta metal) are tha worlds worst as for being anywhere close ta accurate so there's that... a merc gauge would get ya as close as possible but even then ya really need a temp...

    if ya just want a merc gauge sensor you should already have one on tha port head.. there is a three wire sensor on tha port head jus under tha top plug that should have a tan wire that goes no where or plugs into tha wiring harness on tha "boat" side on tha motor.. it only reads metal to metal...

    2 strokes are gonna "smoke"... first, what alarm?.. continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeeep or oscillating beep, beep, beep etc.?.. instant "on" when key is turned ta on position?.. motor runnin' or not to get alarm?.. if not do you get tha three "self check" beeps when key is turned on before it goes to...
