1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18HP Hopeful Resurrection

Re: 1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18HP Hopeful Resurrection My parts came in late last week, spent a little time last night and this morning looking at things. I installed a lower housing to pilot shaft screw that was missing. Had to run a tap in the threads to clean them out. Looks like the bolts...

    14' Lone Star Repairs

Re: 14' Lone Star Repairs I've been taking it easy on paint removal after the quick seam paint removal for the leak test. Seems I have picked up a little tennis elbow. Maybe wire wheeling is not a great idea. Removed the rest of the outer seam filler, whatever it is. Tool of choice is...

I'm new and hooked on tinny Starcrafts

Re: I'm new and hooked on tinny Starcrafts talltx, That Mariner would be a great boat for cruising and such. I have a 21' Mariner, main uses are cruising, tubing and skiing. I'm very good a drowning worms, not good at catching fish. One consideration for you is the leg room in an SS. You...

    Outrageous Outboards Ads

I was looking at a thread where 1946Zepher posted a link to a ebay adv. for a motor that was very over priced IMO and his. It reminded me of an ad I saw on CL recently. http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/boa/2755579272.html 1957 Johnson 5 1/2 horse - $1700 (hudsonville) Date: 2012-01-09...

    14' Lone Star Repairs

Re: 14' Lone Star Repairs Here some pics of the seam I worked on today, Thick blue paint, I swear it's house paint that was slathered on with a brush. In the back corner it was covered with white material, caulk or maybe 5200? Under that is some hard, very sticky aluminum colored filler...

    14' Lone Star Repairs

Re: 14' Lone Star Repairs I was also thinking JB Weld, but that isn't flexible. See below on what my float test would look like. Look guy's the boats dry, no leaks. I know putting water in a boat is not the greatest thing, it can do damage. I also think the the pressures on the boat are not...

    14' Lone Star Repairs

Re: 14' Lone Star Repairs I'm back to removing paint. One of the things I noticed is a caulk like substance where the panels meet. Some areas have it, others don't. Comes and goes along the seam. It is old and was painted over. Removes very easy. I have not done a leak test yet. I'm...

    Sacrilege to the Tinny Nation

I was reading a thread on a renovation and came across some blatant anti tinny posts. I understand that Starmada and other notable tinny brands are in the minority on these pages, but I was shocked by the clear biased comments against Aluminum boats. I have often seen an attempt to not...

    Johnson Motor ID Help

Tracked this motor down and considering buying it. The owner is over an hour away and has been trying to help ID it but so far no luck. No plate, He says the freeze plug has J2405753, with a block letter M inside a square on it. He thought it was a 1972, but now states a 1966. He states it's an...

    14' Lone Star Repairs

Re: 14' Lone Star Repairs Been slowly getting the paint off, still using the wire wheel method. Don't have access to a hose at the building, so stripper is out. Just a couple pics of the war wounds. Trying to see if a swirl pattern might help hide the scars.
