    Funny, and your the wiring guy. What brand and size and how old is it? Batteries today are crap and I'm in a dispute right now with a local company who makes them. If you buy a battery take your meter to the store.

    That outboard was designed to work with a VRO hooked up. Somewhat doesn't surprise me that it's not running very well at low RPMs because that's what the vro does is lean back the oil. Your other issues are definitely issues that you need to remedy. Never run an outboard in a lean situation...

    Use a portable tank with 75 to 1 to diagnose the vro. Best to keep the vro in my opinion. Seems like the alarm is possibly working as it should.

    Oil alarm does two things, low oil bottle, (test that the plunger is working correctly) and two low pressure. Your vro pump may have failed. Racerone can tell you what you need to do. (Inexpensive rubber diaphragm).

    If the plug wires are backwards usually it will backfire. The other expert told you to check the wires from the power pack. Blue is for the top coil green is for the bottom coil make sure that is correct. Most likely it's fuel related because it sat. What carburetor rebuild kit did you buy...

    My approach is different because there kids.... Everyone fixes it together and then teach them how to change the gear oil. (Every year) I'm guessing it's destroyed.
