That is basically a way to keep water from the splash well out of the boat. Since the splash well has scuppers to drain standing water that rubber is designed to deflect spray away. If it was mine and I was really worried about it I might daub something like like liquid electrical tape on the...
Can't believe that there is someone else my age still living and knows of white gas. I was a pump jockey at an Amoco station in the mid-50's and white gas was Amoco's stock in trade. Nothing more than regular gas with the aromatics removed thus the clear color. Worked great in Coleman stoves...
Wild guesses but since the difference was only when the engine was tilted one of the carbs might have a float hanging up. What is the condition of the hose from the tank to the motor? Perhaps it is kinking with the motor down or the inner hose liner is shot and not getting enough flow until...
Having been the proud owner of both a Healy 3000 and a Sprite about 45 years ago you will find that if you can keep yours running right working on your boat will be a piece of cake.
My wife told me one day some years back that I had 6 boats, 6 hunting dogs, and one wife totaling 13 items and that number 13 should be treated as a contestant. One more dog or one more boat the number would still be 13.
Sounds like a misaligned shift shaft if they replace the water pump and had to drop the lower unit. Take it back and explain the problem to a mechanic old enough to shave..
You did not say which motor but every couple of years my 1990 Johnson on my Tracker Nitro would start acting the that way. I found just unplugging and plugging back in the relays a couple of times would cure it. Corrosion on the contacts I think.
Without being there and testing I am thinking that replacing the amp meter with a volt meter might be causing your problem. An ammeter is wired in series, a volt meter in parallel. Depending how it was wired when replaced it could very likely be the culprit.
The fact that it stays running after the ballast resistor is back in the circuit and the jumper is remove pretty much rules out a bad resistor. Check the voltage at the coil when it is running. It should be around 9 volts or so. Since the gauges are also not getting voltage I suspect you have...
That 4 stroke weighs about 20 pounds or so more than the 2 stroke and some of that is moving parts. Physics says that force equals mass time acceleration so it will theoretically rev up slower than a 2 stroke of equal power but I don't know if it would be enough to notice. In the real world I...
Along with that spare tire make certain you also have a jack and lug wrench that works on the trailer. The farther you are from home the greater the chance the ones that came with your tow vehicle won't fit.
Ran an 19' Grady White state patrol boat with a 175 Yamaha for 8 years as the next to last boat before I retired. Never gave us a lick of problems. Right before it was replaced I did notice some corroding of the trim cylinder rods but would still gone another couple of years before they...
Don't know how far along you are but I would add some more bracing to the hull before I started removing any structure from the boat. They can get a little floppy and would hate to see the cap not fit back on when the time comes. Take a look in the restoration forum here and see how others...
