    Definitely replace them. I've seen one freshly rebuilt engine destroyed when it inhaled a broken reed valve. Those are hardened steel and don't take too kindly to bending.

    And the thing is, those parts are better quality than the stuff you can get today and will outlast anything they put on there. I wound be putting them back on. Hope the mechanic didn't keep them.

    What kind of rivets for aluminum boat deck?

    I used regular blind rivets from the home Depot on my aluminum plate flooring and have had 0 problems with them. Also ordered some industrial pop rivets online and they seem to be about the same quality. I used 3/16"on everything. Some 5/8 and some 1/2" long.

    After studying this situation, you should have made it a 25" transom, got a 25" motor and mounted it as high as possible. You go out in blue water with it like that and you'll be swimming.

    My opinion is, you could raise that motor up quite a bit. Looks like it's drowning. Maybe you could find a jackplate and experiment with it. Get it as high as you can, till it starts to blow out when trying to plane out. Seeing you have such a large splash well, that'll help with the water...
