    Minn Kota 599 Project

Thanks S.A. Baker, I honestly appreciate your response. And I really think the same wiring schematic will work for your Minn Kota 555 model as well. Like I said, the only difference I see is the 12/24 volt option switch on the 599 model. So it should work perfectly. I have rebuild other trolling...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

And this brings this project to a conclusion. It is all assembled again and you can see what it looks like. I posted this project for two reasons. I, after looking for a typical schematic diagram for this Minn Kota 599 12/24 volt trolling motor and finding ZERO, zip, nada, nothing, and seeing...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

I guess I should post the schematic and switch layouts. Here are those two diagrams: These are all the switches that the Minn Kota 599 trolling motor uses. I shown all of them from the back view for better clarity. And the schematic diagram from the actual Minn Kota 599 trolling motor...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

Okay for a little more update and info. I have assembled almost everything now. And as usual, there is a sequence to such assembly. And of course I didn't realize such a sequence on the first try. So I assembled things and then disassembled then again so I could do it in the "special" order so...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

Here are some of the parts after cleanup and painting them ready for assembly again. Here is the foot pedal and the rotary switch with hardware ready to go together. And the actual switch with the part number. However, I did try to locate a new one just to see if they were still available...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

I did repair even the drive/steering cables because they too were toast. So I removed the actual inside cable and decided that standard picture frame wire sold at Lowes was the exact same cable. And it was. So I bought about 12 feet and this is how I repaired the drive/steering cables. If...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

And a few more shots of the unfinished unit; Here is a little further away shot showing both the wiring and the steering setup in the head unit. This is a shot of the head unit with the cover on and the indicator pointer. Not really clear, but the verbiage tells that it is a 599 model...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

Now comes the interesting section of the disassembly. The actual control cables that move the trolling motor. This is very interesting to see and reconfigure after the refinishing work was done. I've used these pictures a lot in the reassembly... This has got to be an engineering feat in...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

Now I start disassembling it. but before I get ahead of myself, out comes the camera. I've taken well over 50 or more pictures ( I mean they are digital anyways) of this thing from start to finish and amazing how many times I have gone back to the pictures for both reassembly (coming later on)...

    Minn Kota 599 Project

I myself have been looking for info on an old Minn Kota 599 12/24 volt trolling motor. And in my search I've seen a lot of folks ask the same questions. And that question is; "Does anybody have a schematic diagram for the Minn Kota 599 Trolling motor"? Well I not only have such a schematic (self...

    Capacity Plate

USMC6023, I can understand posting in every forum not knowing the dispersion of these forums. But any time you post anything, it is displayed on today's posts. Now about a capacity plate. With the info GA_Boater offered you, concerning weight and Horse Power range, you should be able to have a...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Thanks WOG, but unless it is something the average guy can easily do or make, I don't see it being of much use. I mean I'm pretty sure there are factory sensor that do basically the same thing. And I would most certainly use a sensor like this then a float switch. I am sure if you would search...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Okay, I will post the actual schematic and PC board layout for those wanting to duplicate the circuit. As you can see the circuit is merely a very high gain Darlington Pair Configuration amp that turns on a relay when water is sensed at the water sense probes. Most any NPN type transistor...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Here is a little progress for today... As I was looking around the shop today, I decided to assemble my auto bilge pump circuit assembly. I posted this previously, but without any parts to show or back up circuitry. So here is what I did to build an electronic auto bilge pump system. And before...

    Paint old cowling

Davey, I did exactly what you are wanting to do. But I did spray my cowling and didn't buy any decals. I actually painted on everything with a little taping and air brush technique. And then I clear coated over everything. It came out nice and will hold up for a long time because the paints I...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

bonz_d, I say go for it. Just remember, the worst you can do is mess it up. And that is all that can happen is everything fails. And then you can easily sand it and try again. That's the beauty of it. I say if I can do it, anybody can. And who knows, you may be a natural and love spraying things...

    Workspace

BWR, I honestly know exactly what you are talking about. All my neighbors keep telling me to build something to work from. But I didn't have the needed funds at that time and waited. Because I had my workshop dreams stuck in my head and until I could afford to build that design, I didn't want to...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Update update...read all about it... Okay that was korny for sure... Today I finished gluing up the front angled panel and set it in for a look see. I think it will work out nicely. It will look better after it is installed with the gauges and switches... I also mocked up (with...

Speedometer not working/120 force tube location is?

ggundersen3, I f I'm not mistaken at the very front section of the foot. I attached your picture with an arrow. When the tube connects to the speedometer, I honestly don't remember anymore. But that was where my Mercury picked up the speed (water pressure).
