    Nothing wrong with a few drops of ordinary gear oil mixed in with premium blend.----Nothing at all.----As I have said many times the lubrication in outboards is a big mystery !

    Running out of fuel.-----Inspected for cracked coils ?----These motors often have 2 cracked coils or a set of new ones already.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on both leads ?

    The wrong oil did no damage whatsoever !!!-----The spring needs attention.-----Springs used to be expensive.----One site has a fire sale on them I believe.

    Some of those use 1 solenoid for UP.-----Switch is able to handle current for DOWN as it is much lower !

    That usually means trouble between 2 parties.----User should put X number of $$$ into a fund to cover maintenance cost.----One owner may use it 66% of the time and should be covering 66% of operating cost!!

    Agrreed the VRO is a combination fuel / oil pump and it mixes the 2 according to engine load.-----The early one did not have " no oil warning " feature.----Those should be thrown out and updated with a new pump / wiring kit.

    Slipping

    Try another prop.----Those lower units are NOT robust and gears strip / break teeth all the time.----Drain gear oil.---Inspect for metal bits.----Put in the factory recommended oil.

    If you could separate it that far to remove shift bolt it is not locked solid in the crankshaft.-----Move it up and down a few times.----The crankshaft spline has rusted ( o-ring missing ) and hopefully it is still strong enough to drive the prop----Post the compression numbers here.----If...
