The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

I feel your pain! Being in upstate NY I don't get but 3 or so months of truly perfect "working on the boat " weather.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

The picture I posted isn't mine but just showing the difference. The changes I made so far were eliminating the ski locker. I did that to remove water intrusion areas, although it greatly reduces any storage on a boat this size. I have been contemplating incorporating storage in the front seat...

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

It was the layout of the connections that I had noticed. I just assumed that they would be the same to make production easier. Another situation that one should never assume lol.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

Looking at the picture, it's amazing how we have the same boat other than the drive, and your tank layout is completely different. Don't burn yourself out. Don't be afraid to take a break! There were times I had to walk away for a few days or a week because I started feeling overwhelmed by the...

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

I am sharing this with you to hopefully keep the momentum going. When you get to cleaning like this, you're on the downhill side. You're close to this!

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

That is a lot of progress, and any progress is a step closer to the ultimate goal. Once you get demolition done and have clean slate in front of you it DOES feel good because reconstruction feels great! You unfortunately had more rot than I had being the front seating area, but in the long run...

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

Looking good! Thinking back on the various stages of my build thus far, this step was the one that I liked the least .

What you could do is remove the sending unit and use a battery-operated pump( for a 5 gallon can), which I bought cheap at Harbor Freight. The bottom of my tank was v- shaped, so it got 99% of what was there.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

Our boats appear to be the same other than the immediate stern/drive setups, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you need to.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

What I learned with mine was that knowing it was a full gut is I liked the rotted wood because demotion was so much easier.

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

Thanks Chevy! It can be purchased at Lowes and I like the price! I'm glad you gave those details on the glue like you did so I can be extra careful and get everything prepped and protected beforehand. I am counting the days for boating weather also, I plan on a short test in the water before...

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

Chevy when you say heavy are you referring to 20 oz. Or something similar? I'd appreciate if you could tell me what glue you used so I can compare and did you use air dry gelcoat with that adhesive. Thanks 😊

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

Todd I used air dry gelcoat as my final layer if that is what you mean "with wax". I hope I am wrong 😊

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I've been reading through threads here and elsewhere but wanted to ask for your opinions on carpet weight and brand recommendations and also adhesive possibilities. I've seen 20 oz. alot but depending on brand became expensive. As far as adhesive I'm skeptical of what may work because of how...

    Carburetor Experiment

I agree that those ultrasonic cleaners are great! All of the orifices are clear, and the pump walls are nice and smooth. If it works I have a good spare, and if not, it was a fun little project. 😉

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I ended up using white vinegar and only let it soak for 15 minutes. I scrubbed with a toothbrush, rinsed thourghly dried with compressed air. I previously tried Grez-off, letting it soak for days, but it really didn't do what I had hoped. We use it at work as a parts cleaner(environmentally...

    Carburetor Experiment

It's the carburetor that was on the boat when I acquired it, and after one look, I purchased a reman carburetor but was still curious if it could be brought back from the dead 😊. I watched a video of an older gentleman using diluted muratic and rinses not leaving it in more than 10 minutes at a...

    Carburetor Experiment

I'm going to try an experiment. Since carburetors are expensive for the 2.3 and it's a gamble on reconditioned ones I'm going to try cleaning the old one. I've done alot of reading and video watching and have decided to use muratic acid. I've tried soaking and scrubbing using various cleaners...
