It rained on my fresh, wet paint!

What to do? The only thing I can think of is to let it dry, then deal with it after that. I did catch it quickly. Any other thoughts?

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

About 10 minutes ago, while I was sipping coffee and watching the news, it started to rain with bright, blue skies and full sunshine! Typical Florida. A single cloud apparently popped up right over our house and rained on my fresh wet paint! :cautious:

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

Went back out about 1/2 hour ago and sprayed the 3rd blue coat on the console and the 2nd white coat on the panel inserts.

Went back to the garage this morning. Got the 2nd coat of blue onto the console and the first coat of white onto the console panel inserts. Did a little cleanup, then sprayed the 2nd coat. Panel inserts cleaned and prepped for paint. First coat of white sprayed onto the panel inserts...

    Starting to feel like August

Yeah, it's been in the upper 80s at bedtime here, but down to the mid-70s in the morning. Humidity/dew point has been through the roof. Thinking more about it, I guess it really isn't August yet, because it'll be in the upper 80s or even low 90s when we get up in the morning then. 🤪 I was...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

I did it! :D Got out there this evening and got the console cleaned and first coat of paint applied. Using the right tool for the job really helps. The Dremel "sanding balls" got into every nook and cranny on the gauge wells. Then I closed up shop and applied the first coat of paint...

    Starting to feel like August

Ugh! I was working earlier in the garage this morning and it was hot but not horrible. When I went out a couple hours later, it was absolutely miserable! 🥵

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

I didn't get back to work yesterday, but I went out there this morning and started sanding the console. It was hot outside, but not horrible. That came later. :sneaky: After I got to a point where I couldn't do any more sanding because of lack of tools to get into the indented places, I...

I used something similar in the USAF to calculate satellite orbits.

Oh yeah, my last gauge (water temp) should finally arrive tomorrow. If the weather cooperates, I'm hoping for a flurry of activity and progress. My wife is off work all next week and it would be nice to get her out on the boat at last.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

Any ideas about what I could put in that yawning, cavernous hole on the lower right of the console? Looks like a place for an old 8-track player! I know that I can put a blank panel on it, but that's so boring. :geek:

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

My buddy came over this evening and popped the steering system off for me. I'm hoping to get it sanded and painted tomorrow, but I have an obligation in the morning, so don't know if I'll be back in time to avoid the heat. And I have to buy some more blue satin paint and a can of white satin...

    Transom replacement 1975 18' SS

Check out @Watermann 's thread about rivets. Everything you need to know should be there. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/rivets-rivets-and-more-rivets-repaired.741809/ And many of us have to deal with the heat/humidity. I take the same approach as you. Get out there early and get...

    Transom replacement 1975 18' SS

I don't know about the SS, but on my Kingfisher and Chieftain, the hull drain plug tube didn't need to be removed, because the transom is far above it. I know that the Chief has drain tubes on the splashwell though.
