Mounting Kicker on 1989 Bayliner Capri

OK, but still likely a hollow spot there, never seen curved transom wood. Gonna have to get in there and check, and probably add a big form fitted backing plate, then anchor with thru bolts.

    New boat

You want the smallest that you can sleep 4 people in, for a couple of nights? AND still have 4 happy people afterwards? That is if no one was thrown overboard. If you want to "weekend" a few times a year, rent a houseboat. Or a cabin on a lake, best of both worlds. One person, or maybe two...

Mounting Kicker on 1989 Bayliner Capri

I"m guessing there isn't much/any structure behind that part of the transom. This is an i/o boat, correct?

    Throttle and idle controls

won't hurt to pop open the control box and grease the pivot points and cable ends with a little light grease. I wouldn't worry about the cables themselves.

    1974 Starcraft info?

I see. Well, then we start from scratch. Who has a brochure hard copy ? Who can scan and or host images?

    Throttle and idle controls

Sounds about normal to me. Throttle increase is further forward so that you can put it into gear, without accelerating. But my neutral is a noon. The boat doesn't go out at midnight. :)

Options for towing boat w a non tilt/trim small outboard (25 hp)?

start with a 2x4 about 14" long. Drill a hole in it or screw an eye bolt near each end. Raise motor, place 2x4 into space between motor leg and the transom mount. Lower motor. Wire, tie or bungee the 2x4 in place so it can't fall down. Now tie the motor down by securing a small ratchet strap...

Anyone have the brochures available ???

Since the last software upgrade, all the links to the brochures are garbage. Anyone have them copied? Maybe a few hard paper copies? Anyone have the ability to post them and make them available if we can gather them together? I have a hard copy of 1966.

    1974 Starcraft info?

Well, its got a HIN on the transom, so it looks to be '74 or newer. You won't be finding "period correct" parts, unless you find some on ebay or a junkyard. The vinyl back then was make with chemicals they can't use now days, some you will be left using the modern day inferior version. An...

Pontoon sitting for over 10 years

The answer to many of your issues starts with a trailer. Buy, rent, or borrow one for a day and get it out of the water, onto dry land, so you can work on it properly. The cylinders should be soaked in oil, not wd40. Then grab the flywheel and turn the engine a few revolutions. Oil it again and...

Beginner beginning a complete restoration - Starcraft 18

Yes Yes Don't fill the boat. Make sure it is clean and dry, then put it in the water. Use a grease pencil to mark leaks you find. Some sprinkle flour in the hull to help to see any seeping moisture.

1975 Mercury 115 EL OB w/ Controls value?

Your boat can handle it. Throttle back a bit if you don't want to go so fast. I had a Starcraft 18 SS with a 65 on it. Ran ok, once you got on plane, which took a while. Replaced with a 115 hp Merc. I also have a Starcraft Mariner 18. It also has a 115 Merc. I wouldn't even think about going...

    Why's the boat leaking?

Don't worry about damaging your bilge pump by running dry. Whether you have a centrifugal or diaphragm type pump, it can be run dry. The only long term damage will be minimal if any at all.

    Going electric vs marinas

Certainly NOT a good edea. Any time, and EVERY time, that you convert energy from one for to another, you lose, through friction, heat, inefficient burn, etc. Internal combustion engines are terribly inefficient. But have one big advantage - fast refueling with an easily transported and stored...

    Wet storage

Another idea, contact VFW or other veterans groups, or vet fishing groups, and inquire what others are doing. You might even get super lucky and find someone that will let you keep it on their private dock in front of their home. You will probably have to exchange stories about basic training...
