    Surge Brake replacement parts

If I ever started towing it long distances yes, I would put on a pair of either Kodaik or Dee Maxx 12" discs, I do like the ease of working on them, as we all know working on drums can be a pain, but I really haven't had much trouble. Even if I towed it to Montauk L.I. (known as The End) it...

Aftermarket Mercruiser parts, What are you using???

Exactly! The OEM Cobra bellows last 10 years easily in my experience I would think Merc is just as good. Last time I did mine was in 2016 and no cracks in the folds yet… but as soon as I see them it gets changed…

Aftermarket Mercruiser parts, What are you using???

Agreed, even though I have an OMC and can't just get parts down the street like Merc, I have OEM spares on hand for things like that, bellows, impeller, I have found that when comparing, things like the distributor and points and condenser sets are better quality when OEM vs Sierra. Will use...

    Surge Brake replacement parts

Their disc brakes were terrible that’s why I went with drums when I put brakes on this trailer back in 2004. But as I said the coupler still works fine. The hill I have to go down to get to the ramp is so steep trust me you’d know if it wasn’t working.

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

I'm going to agree with that, I think EFI in my vehicles has been excellent, I don't think I have had to fix any aspect of the EFI system on any vehicle I have had and I am counting a 27 year old Grand Cherokee 4.0 in that mix, all that ever needed was a cleaning of the idle air valve now and...

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

So you're saying shutting off the fuel will stress the seals in the pump I guess....in that case, I'll just use the outboard tank I have that I used for testing the fuel system (another story) but fill it with E0 gas that's stabilized. There is one station around here that sells it, expensive...

    Surge Brake replacement parts

Yep that makes sense; I live about a mile from my local boat ramp and the boat sits on a mooring all season so the trailer gets used at most 4 times a year. However in my experience besides physical wear, moisture plays a role in how long hydraulic cylinders/ brake parts last. We live in a more...

    Surge Brake replacement parts

Maybe 15 miles? Never leaves Long Island. For that matter I have a 98 Grand Cherokee with the OEM master cylinder! And that has 183,000 on it! I think with these things you never know.

    New engine installation

I made up a jumper wire with alligator clips so I can ground the coil lead when cranking and you don’t want sparks like for a compression test

Mercruiser 260 350v8 choke spring? Different clocked positions

Very good work a well adjusted divorced choke actually works fine as long as your engine reaches operating temp. the choke spring gets heated by the exhaust cross over passage in the intake manifold. The only time I have had issues with this is when a bit of rust or sand holds the thermostat...

    1990 Mercruiser 5.7L trouble starting

The other things that can cause troubles are in the boat fuel tank, the anti siphon valve, pick up tube & vent. I’d actually check those first; you can try running the engine on a separate tank…. Is the distributor making spark? Fuel getting to the carb? The fact that it ran on starter fluid...

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

not an outboard lol. no way to drain carb so it's either store it with EO or run it dry? What's better?

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

It's my 4.3 I/O with Quadrajet carb, I used the outboard tank to troubleshoot a fuel problem I had all season....and thought of using it for this, as well....

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

My outboard tank has a shut off so I could do it that way with the E0 gas as well! I might try this first, run it a little above idle as if I were going to fog it and shut off the fuel & see how long it takes to run out of gas. Then I can time the fogging so the 2 coincide

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

Conclusion, the best test is running it on a separate tank. I bought a 6 gallon outboard tank, installed a shut off for safety and hooked it up. As soon as I did that the hesitation/low rpm problem I had was gone! Engine planed the boat out & reached 4900 rpm WOT…. So now I know it’s either the...

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

I’ve been thinking about this, here we are stuck with E10 at most marinas & gas stations, but there is one station that sells E-0 94 octane gas (started using it in my small engines). Would it be better to hook up my outboard tank & run it on that, then fog it, or, install a shut off, run it on...
