    Gear Oil Pump Storage

Me too. I zip tie the outlet to the top of the pump so it doesn't dribble out.

First start after lower unit rebuild - new boat owner

If you're referring to the smoke/steam, that is independent of the lower unit service. It's associated with the engine and it may clear up when the engine warms up. The reason you shouldn't run the engine with the drive up is because it is very hard on the U-joints at the top of the drive...

    How to bleed trailer brakes

Check the manual for your surge brake actuator. There may be a way to bleed it with a flat head screwdriver from below, like on my UFP/Dexter actuator.

    Should I be worried

It looks like you may be able to swap the winch post and the jack so the post can move forward, assuming here's enough clearance to operate the jack behind the winch...

    Storage on land

    Just use a trickle charger.

    Coupler

Brake cleaner would work well, as well toothbrush on a stick. Have you checked for proper alignment with an alignment tool? If it’s out of alignment, it would have similar symptoms…

    steering actuator

Is it a Seastar actuator? Their website has manuals on seal replacement. A different manufacturer may have similar manuals.

    Transom removal on SX

I find the bigger risk of corrosion are the screws that hold on the trim sender on the starboard side that covers the said pivot housing bolt. Do the same thread treatment described above on the threads if you get them out without breaking them...

    Transom removal on SX

You don't need a 12 point. Just use a regular hex six point. I forget the size.

Volvo Penta raw water nipple removal question.

I just used a hammer with the pivot housing on the boat. Clean the square recessed area on the housing and grease with triple guard grease, or equivalent, so it comes out more easily next time.

    Overheating under load

If you saw the temp climb on muffs, with no real load, then I suspect you still have an issue. I believe 140F thermostats are more for raw water cooled systems, whereas 160F is used for closed systems with a heat exchanger.

Dometic RV fridge RH460LD any good?

One big benefit of compressor refrigerators is that they are way more efficient (lower amps) in DC mode than absorption. If you're running off a battery/solar, you want a compressor refrigerator. I don't hear the compressor frig on our 30' boat.

    Head holding tank pump out

I went through this on my 21' cuddy and just replaced the john with a porta potty. Super easy to remove and pour down a toilet. How much capacity do you really need for a day trip or three?

    Trailer surge brakes

That's a good question. I suspect the "self-energization" has a relatively small effect on overall performance given all the things at play in these surge systems. For instance: - Larger surge actuator piston diameter would create lower brake pressure (bad), but less actuator stroke or...

    Trailer surge brakes

Not quite. Brake torque equals force times torque radius, (T = F x R). Even if the brake piston size remains the same, the shoe friction load is further away from the axle (higher torque radius), so going with a larger drum or disc will result in higher brake torque. Now if the wheel and/or...

    Volvo Penta 7.4 overheats

Pull the drive all the way off and tilt the pivot housing up and you’ll see the hose connected to the fitting. On mine, I had to use a big hammer on the fitting end in your picture to break it free of the pivot housing due to corrosion.

    Wheel Bearing Inspection Interval

For me, annually, regardless of the lube system. Too many times I find leakage that requires bearing replacement.

    280 C-N. Corrosion

I'm not familiar with this newer drive, but I would pull the back cover off the drive and confirm the cable is actuating the gear selector lever fully in both forward and reverse. Maybe the cable wasn't adjusted correctly. With the cable disconnected you should be able to shift it fully into...
