No oil on dip stick after adding 6 liters

Does the dipstick tube connect to the bottom of the oil pan and not go into the side of the block? If so these set ups are prone to oil level changes due to temperature changes and can be very inaccurate. I find that if you pull the stick out and wait like 5-10 min allow the oil level in the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I would sell and buy what you want….i just think there are too many unknowns that will take too long to resolve…I’d choose the biggest boat I could get with a 300 hp outboard & go with that….

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Apparently Merc also tried to make their mid size Obs easy to service as well... Suzuki has one big advantage for single engine boats, a DP set up, don't think anyone else has that on an OB.

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

Trailers need regular maintenance....in the old days, we had to manually clean, repack and adjust the front wheel bearings of our rear-drive vehicles every 30,000 miles, often if you had drum brakes you'd try to do the bearings and brakes at the same time so as to not have to get back into it...

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

PS Looking at a few Volvo wiring diagrams that’s how many of them have the sense wire connected….short wire from B+ to S terminal….

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

Ok had a similar issue but not so extreme (charging voltage 15.5 at batteries) sone years back. And I learned the cause & solution from a tech guy at ARCO & it also came in instructions for a new alternator I bought from them. Apparently on older OMCs resistance develops in the voltage sense...

    3.0 exhaust manifold over heats

OK what you show there makes sense, the diagram did not, because the elbow would not get cool water flow till the 'stat opened, and it would run VERY hot.

    salt water in single cylinder

I have seen their website but don't know anyone with experience with them. Another thought is a local machine shop, if they can find a good core since there are no more new 4.3s (the old cast iron version we have) they might be able to build you one. If you can find a trustworthy place, might...

    salt water in single cylinder

PS when mine blew the head gaskets I took my old heads to a machine shop (SK Speed in Lindenhurst) and they magnafluxed them & found the cracks. That plus the years used in salt water made them recommend a pair of reman heads, my block & cyl walls looked fine. 8 years later still running well….

    salt water in single cylinder

Might want to evaluate what the boat’s worth to you and decide if installing a reman 4.3 would be worth it. Check out Michigan Motorz they sell a variety of reman 4.3s including ones that match up with yours….theyre about $3500 then there’s all the add ons, exhaust, starter etc. If I were doing...

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

If you can wait for it Champion Trailers makes custom axles to your exact spec. Takes about 4 weeks the last time I had one done. The latest I had done is a 2x3 drop saddle center section with 6,000 capacity. This gave my trailer a big safety margin combined with 12” brakes and 225/75-15 Load...

When I had blown HGs on mine I found that both V6 heads had cracks in the valve seat area of the center cylinders. No cracks in the block though. Past overheat damage….

Glastron GXL 235 anti siphon valve location?

There has to be access to the fuel tank connections and fuel gauge wiring. Sometimes it’s a round cover screwed into the deck, about 5-6” in diameter. My boat has a rectangular panel that can be removed…the anti siphon valve is screwed onto the fuel pick up tube. The fuel line from the...

    salt water in single cylinder

Agreed that’s what the last pic looks like. When you get it back together (or get a reman) be careful with where you set the timing. Apparently the 4.3s are more prone to detonation and I’m not sure what Merc’s specs are but OMC specified only 12* of centrifugal advance and base timing was 1* if...

    salt water in single cylinder

Cast iron components in most fresh water last indefinitely. You should see boats from the USA used only in fresh water regions. The engines look like new, same with outdrives. We in the salt, change our elbows/manifolds every 5-7 years, at least the elbows, in fresh water, some last...

    2006 Volvo out drive thumping

They use them on both ends of our '17 Wrangler rear driveshaft and on the front end of the front driveshaft. I'd say they are plenty strong enough. My '07 Jeep 5.7 has CVs on both ends of the front driveshaft. It has 375 ft lbs of torque....
