82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

Brazier head rivets that SC used usually have a dimple in the center of the head but even if not you'll want a new sharp pilot point drill bit in 3/16. I didn't center punch any solids using that bit.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I see, well at least the rib end rivets appear to be through that hull brace. The bad news is when you drill them out the head will pop off instantly but SC used steel mandrels and they may not drill out clear to the rib. That would leave the body of the rivet still attached to the rib and...

You won't have a possible fiberglass horror story with lust the OTF and have saved $$$.

1973 starcraft ss restore in progress

Yeah aluminum stock is difficult to work with and very expensive, I used it when building support structure for my raised casting deck framing.

More solids pulled into the wood by the other 2 components. Nothing gets past the first layer of waterproof glue in the plywood and it's also good for wood bunks.

Personally I would use Helmsman spar urethane in gloss rather than the varnish in the OTF.

My 18' SS now has a 115 Merc on it, I think that's the sweet spot for an 18'r. Not a heavy gas hungry V6 and will push into the 40's at WOT.

    1969 holiday

Nice interior work, can't imagine them not replacing the wood transom when doing all that work. That year of SC the issues that would come up are rib end and spray rail cracks since it's prior to the placement of the hull braces in the early 70's.

Helmsman is good stuff. I recommend the gloss as is has the most solids.

Deep Cycle Battery not good for starting??

Is there even a problem with starting or anything other than wondering about hurting the motor? No a deep cycle lead acid battery won't hurt your Johnson but using a starting battery for anything other than starting could lead to a problem with a dead starting battery.

    SOTY 2024

Seems maybe interest is waning for these boats being brought back to their former glory. I know social media is taking some of the boats but I think people enjoy having the instant gratification of likes and ogles on the apps. Anyway I knew of a couple boats splashed this year and besides that...

Helmsman Spar urethane is what I've used for my decking. You could also use the Old Timers formula.
