    Glassing in new motor mounts?

I'm replacing my 3.7L with a 4.3. Next week's project is going to be to glass in some new motor mounts. I've had some advice on how to measure, what to do, etc, but couldn't find a ton of info. I replaced the floor a few years back, and the stringers are in good shape back there. 1. I don't plan...

Turning motor over, where to put the juice?

Going to compression test the new 4.3 tomorrow. Got a battery, and a long block with starter attached. I don't recall seeing the slave, but assume that it's still on there (?). What's the best way to do this? I'll probably use jumper cables, since I'm not sure what kind of wiring I have...

Boat fired up on first crank...has this ever happened?

Threw the skiff in the water last weekend after the weekend. As expected, battery dead. Gas from the end of last year. So go to pull start, and it starts on literally the first pull. 2 stroke engine. This has to be the first time in history this has happened. I was so surprised that I didn't...

    How's my transom?

Just pulled my engine, and am trying to determine if my transom is rotted or if I'm good to go with the engine swap. I drilled a bunch of 1/2" holes, and really can't figure out what I'm looking at. The wood is consistent at every hole (even at the top). The transom feels solid and looks solid...

    Stuck outdrive

Started to pull my engine, got everything ready, waited till the end to pull the drive (easiest part, right?). Damn thing wouldn't come off. Pulled back maybe an inch, even after dropping it. First thought was that removing the lag and mount bolts allowed the engine to move enough to bind it in...

    Ideas for pulling an engine?

About to start last falls project next week  Swapping in a 4.3 for my 3.7. gonna be tight to get it ready for summer, and if the transoms rotted... Anyway, first step is pulling the engine. I have no equipment, no trees, no garage. Trying to figure out the best way to do this. I don't...

    Rotten transom?

So I swiss-cheesed my inner transom before I did my floor a few seasons ago, and it looked basically pretty good. I also removed a lot of stuff fastened to the outside, drilled out the holes, filled with epoxy and reattached. Last week came back from a ride, noticed speedo pitot loose. It...

    Ignition switch for 25hp Merc?

Key broke off in the ignition switch. Tried replacing with a Sierra, but the body was too wide and the throttle box wouldn't close (realized after wiring everything in. boo). Trying to find the correct switch now, but can't find the part. S/N is 0T777364. Would love to get this part by the...

    No navigation tree on phone...

Haven't seen a gripe about this yet, but on my phone there isn't a "tree" of which subforum I'm in. So if I open a post, I have to hit the back button to get back to the list of posts. And no way to jump further up the forum tree, if that makes sense. Tried it with a couple of different browsers

On the right side of a tow today....

40 mile ride, and much to everyone's surprise in board I was the one who gave a tow. I needed some good tow karma, so that's good.

Plug wires for 03 Merc 25hp?

2 cylinder, I can only find a Merc oem set for $30. Anything Sierra/Mallory? Any reason I can't go to Napa and grab a couple of the right length?

Need to fix my swim ladder...

My ladder broke off right at the fitting (unfortunately I don't have a pic of the damage/ladder until friday). The ladder is pretty unique as far as I can tell, and the fittings allow it to lock in the up position. My transom has weird angles, and most replacement ladders I don't think will fit...

    Fuel pump pressure testing?

Wanting to get the fittings together to hook up a gauge. Found the carb inlet size as 3/8 Barb to Male npt. Can't find the fuel pump outlet size. Also might be nice to check vacuum as well if the pressure is low, so the fuel pump inlet size might be nice to know as well.. .

    470 missing at speed

Was running great, then started missing over 3k rpm while pulling a river. So far: 1. Did a half assed carb rebuild. New Accel pump, otherwise reused everything in the carb. Looked pretty clean. Filters did as well. 2. Broke a plug off in the head. Managed to get it out. New plugs (pic after...

    Crap. Broken spark plug

Trying to chase down a high speed miss/bog. Rebuilt the carb with no effect. Started looking at regular tune up stuff. #4 plug broke off. Any way to remove the remainder without pulling the head? Some sort of ez out/left hand bit?

    470/3.7L Carb spec question

TL;DR version: What's the correct float drop for carb #1389-3489? Seen online in a few places, in the sierra carb rebuild kit instructions, and in the merc 3.0 manual that the drop should be 27mm. The merc #8 manual says 44.5mm, which is what I went with. Level set to 14mm using spring loaded...

How much is this trailer worth?

Just finished stripping a junk boat hull, and need to sell the trailer. Looks to be freshwater only, in very nice shape. Had been holding a 19' bowrider. Actually nicer than my current ride, but I prefer the rollers on my trailer and don't feel like going through the hassle of reregistering...
