    Trailer Load musings

Here is an example...My travel trailer weighs 6500# with 5700# on the tandem axles. That's 1425# /tire. A passenger tire of the same size I use is 1360#/tire after derating...not enough and definitely no margin. I have 3500# axles so they would not even come close to meeting the spec for the...

Restoration of 08 Avalon - need to make the right choices

I buy my vinyl and other fabric through Trivantage. My brother was an auto dealer so I was able to get signed up with them through him. Any upholsterer will have access to that company. They sell a LOT of different vinyl. I sew mainly boat covers. I get all my Sunbrella from them.

Any uphosterer can get fabric if you request it.

    Trailer Load musings

If you use passenger tires, you need to derate the weight carrying by 10%. I have never owned a trailer that I could buy passenger tires for and have enough weight carrying capability....not even close!

    Bellow condition??

There is plenty of area to drill and tap a new hole.

    Trailer Load musings

My brother had a trailer built for his 26' Formula and the guy that made it told him he had to go torsion with a triple axle because of how the spring perches wouldn't work with leaf springs on that particular trailer. Sounded like a bunch of BS to me. No way a 26' boat needs to be on a triple...

Restoration of 08 Avalon - need to make the right choices

If you want darker colors that are actually pretty cool look into coolfeel vinyl. It's what Mastercraft uses. Probably pricey though.

    Bellow condition??

I installed one on my Volvo. You need to remove the pivot housing. Not a big deal.

    Trailer Load musings

If you hit a bump, with a tandem torsion axle trailer, all the force of the impact will get transferred to the forward axle....not so with a leaf spring trailer. Its one of the reasons so many people have bent spindles on torsion axles. They don't share the load between axles like a leaf spring...

    Trailer Load musings

Unless you have a trailer with torsion axles(like I do), the equalizer causes each tire to have the exact same weight. I hate torsion axles...wish I had regular leaf springs.

Charging a LiFePO4 via an Inverter

Kinda curious...you have any experience using lithium batteries?

Charging a LiFePO4 via an Inverter

Depends on the battery. Some Lithium batteries that are rated for use to start engines are designed not to accept their max capable charge.

Charging a LiFePO4 via an Inverter

A LiFePO4 battery, depending on the battery, can absorb over 100A. No outboard alternator could source that much current without damage.

Charging a LiFePO4 via an Inverter

As long as the inverter output is high enough for the max charge of the charger. I would only use an inverter that was a pure sine wave inverter. Do you have the specs for both the inverter and the charger? Overloading your alternator would be the biggest concern. Personally, A WAY better...

    Trailer Load musings

This is why you weigh your axles and your tongue weight instead of guessing. Waiting until you trailer gets into a crazy dangerous sway after you do an evasive maneuver on the highway is too late.

    Bellow condition??

The problem is...if they do leak, you are going to possibly have thousands of dollars of damage as the water in the bellows will get into your drive as well as possibly sink your boat. Cheap insurance to replace the u-joint bellows every 5 years or so...per DonS(RIP).

    2025 NFL/CFB News and Nonsense

I didn't think UCLA was going to win a game this season let alone a game where we were a 24 point underdog.

    Bellow condition??

I changed my Volvo bellows every 6 years on DonS's recommendation from many years ago before he passed.
