changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

I checked the pick up tube and the anti siphon valve . Both are in good condition. My spark plugs are dark with carbon build up , so It may be that not enough air makes it to carburetor. For now I have given the flame arrester a serious cleaning. That and having removed the batteries from a very...

changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

Yep, the devil is so often in the details. Just this afternoon I took out the flame arrestor and completely cleaned it. A lot of junk came out, It made me understand why the plugs were turning black. Now thanks to you, I will take out the floor and check out the fuel intake and screen.

changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

This has been a very informative thread for me. Thank you all! The much higher speed that others attain with their Islanders, gave me some serious food for thought. I will take the boat to a scale and weigh it. With the weight info ,it will be easy to decide if there is more water in the foam...

changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

So the official WOT range is 4200 t0 4600 and the current carb is a 2 barrel Rochester. The current prop is a 15-17 a slightly smaller prop would bring me up to 4400 rpm. But this was before I moved the 100 pounds of battery forward,so now it may be different Does an Edelbrock or Holly fit onto...

changing from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carburetor

I have a 1989 4.3 liter OMC Cobra with a refurbished engine(2024) and EST ignition. It runs very smooth and with the current prop it usually tops out at 4200 rpm. This engine pushes a 1989 221 Starcraft Islander with a 9.9 Suzuki kicker (128 pounds) and about 90 pounds of battery weight which...

Connect alternator outputs of two motors to battery bank

I presume that one is a kicker for trolling while the other is the main engine. If you are not sure, the easy solution is to connect both alternators, but to run only one engine at a time.

    Arghh! Freakin raccoon.

Unless that raccoon has a real good reason to come back (young ones?) .It probably will think twice before getting anywhere near the place where she does not feel welcome.

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

Very good advice, specially the the swim back to where you entered the water part. That way you swim a known gradual neutralising safe route back to dry land

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

That was my understanding as well, but it seems that different chemicals in the water, specially as the water gets warmer, tend to react with the aluminum alloy more than with the magnesium. That was the advice I was given by my local western Lake Ontario boat mechanic /small marina owner. He...

    Repainting a 1989 221V Starcraft Islander

I pulled my new to me Islander (one year) and in order to make it look nice again I decided to do a paint job. I just do not know exactly what type of paint and what shade of blue to use. Being color blind does not help. Also what type of white goes on the bottom when she is in a slip in fresh...

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

It seems that aluminum indium alloy anodes work better in the great lakes, specially during the warm summer months

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

I do sense a little of mistrust of new and potentially better systems of energy creation. Let's not forget that the only way to get alternatives to what we know is an energy source that pollutes and poisons is trial and error. I think that in 20 or 30 years from now, gasoline engines on boats...

    Add tilt/trim to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt 50HP 4967035

It is an outboard bracket that is attached to the transom just like the ones that are used for kickers, but this is also available with a tilt&trim setup

    Water in bilge

Are you sure that it is the boat? Maybe there is a leak in a cooling water hose or a loose connection. Anyway 2 gallons is not so terrible. It could just be condense water that forms on the bottom of the boat

    Add tilt/trim to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt 50HP 4967035

An alternative would be buying an outboard bracket that has tilt&trim. Just install it on your transom, and attach your outboard. no need to fiddle around with hydraulic oil pump, just attach it to a 12 volt source and you're done
