    Bayliner 175 to 170 conversion

Sell 175, buy 170. The boats are basically the same except largely different where it counts. Your wanting to convert from I/O to outboard. Generally that is done with a pod and on such a small boat will change your handling greatly. The transom you’ll find is vastly different. Cutting it...

    2014 GMC Sierra AC

I think 2014 will have the stretch belt. You’ll need a new install tool if you don’t have one, and a 24mm w/ breaker bar to rotate the engine. If you haven’t done a water pump lately I’d recommend it while you’re in there.

    Tire grew in size?

Way out of the realm but a good example. 20x10x8 Carslile Turfmaster made in USA vs China will be roughly 1/2” in diameter different. You won’t be able to mow with one of each. Tire size is meaningless across lines and even country of origin

    Older 4-stroke or newer 2-stroke?

Back in the 90s Honda was THE 4 stroke brand. They are great but the older ones are getting harder to get parts for. The Yam will have everything available you need and a tech willing to work on it should you need it

    1986 four winns 160 restoration

I used the same exact same boat for parts. It was rotted completely to the forward bulkheads. That’s where I got into solid wood when I chopped it up. It was the same kind of story. They just had it out on the lake, but it was obviously dangerously rotted. If you know it’s rotted don’t put it...

    Lengthening a boat trailer

Longer tongue to a point. You slide the winch Stand to put the boat where you want it on the trailer and then move the axle or axles to adjust your tongue weight

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 35hp value?

Well sure, I could have fixed it and gotten just a little bit more out of it. But if I did that, why would I have bothered to repower my boat.. I fully disclosed it had water intrusion in the lower unit in my ad. After half a dozen guys basically offering to take it for free, I had a younger man...

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 35hp value?

I sold a solid running Super Seahorse 40hp that needed re sealing on the lower unit for $250 with restored controls included, and I had trouble at that price. Most People don’t want tinker toys. They want to go boating. Nobody works on the old stuff anymore even though most stuff is all...

My boat needs to run real good on the 4th of July. FIX IT !!

I may take the peddle boat to the tiny local lake. If I do I gotta put the new crank seals in. But I’m not taking a motorized boat anywhere near a launch. Too much hassle launching ontop of a crowded lake

    Question for Starcraft Chieftain owners

Spent many nights in an old Chieftan. Pretty comfy.. spent many hours in the cabin on the water during the day. Never so bad you couldn’t be in there. There is always wind on the water.

Changing to HEI ignition on a 1991 mercruiser 5.0

A team does make a marine rated HEI now, for a little under $200 BUT it’s a Chinese HEI that is modified. I don’t even think it’s actually rated. There is no other support for it. Not something I’d do

1993 Mercruiser 350 Ski Magnum carbed oil type

If you use the oil specified for the engine it’ll be the wrong oil. Look at the oil cap. It’ll probably say 10w30 or 5w30 which would be wrong. Oil matters less than people make it to be. You can use OEM oil, 15w40 diesel oil or many different 20w50 oils provided they have enough zinc. Change...

85 Cobia sportster Mercruiser 120 steering issue

Probably need a new helm and cable. I would start with that. Unless something in the outdrive pivot has come apart ( which would be very evident ) the helms are kind of one time use. Cables go bad, it’s usually cheaper to replace it all

    Fuel for older Evinrude/ Johnson

Octane has nothing to do with how old an engine is. It is required for resistance to compression ignition. Too high of a resistance to light off and it might cause issues. Outboards generally recommended 87-89 octane or white gas, which didn’t have an octane listed but was an unleaded product...

    Fuel for older Evinrude/ Johnson

If the carb or fuel pump has been rebuilt within the last 25-30 years, it will be fine with ethanol. If not, the ethanol will eventually degrade the rubber bits. Modern kits come with rubber that is impervious to the damage of ethanol. This is one very important reason not to use NOS carb or...

What make and computer system to replace my Windows 10 before October 14 ?

You should stop using it when the last update crosses due to security risk.Unless you can get extended service support, which Microsoft actually does do for corporations, but the updates are generally not available freely. I’m not sure if M$ is doing it for Win XP still but I know they were as...

What Brand of Brake pads are best quality? What do you guys use for quality?

Lot of GM OEM pads are TRW. I think the service pads are Akebono. GM dealers have access to 2 separate product lines. OEM and service. Service is good quality but not OEM and the OEM. All boxes are marked AC Delco.
