Seeking Advice: Real-Time Bathymetry Solutions for a 25-Foot Boat

I did something a bit comparable on Lake Ontario. With the help of a Lowrance depth map,and a Furuno 588 with an airmar 262 transducer. I pointed a camera at both the screens and taped the film. The end result was a narrow line with very precise depth reading and irregularities. I pinpointed the...

    Penn or Cannon?

Thank you Dingbat for that info. My preference goes toward the Penn Fathom masters and what made me favor those is the circuit board. This is probably because I am a tinkerer. I managed to find the problem on one of the circuit boards and managed to fix it. Needless to say, I felt good about...

Steering cable wont bend enough to come out of outboard

It sounds to me that it is time for a new steering cable that has a more flexible setup. You might want to think about a hydraulic one instead of a wire cable. It is amazing how you can stuff those in impossible angles and they still work great

    Penn or Cannon?

I have been servicing and fixing my downriggers over the past few days and at this point I have 6 good working ones. 2 Cannon mag15s and 4 Penn 825s. I rebuilt all the motors and everything works fine. I would like your ideas and preferences between Cannon and Penn and why you have...

    Fuel line upgrade

It depends on how cold it gets in winter where you live. The cold will make the line brittle and the squeeze ball hard and useless, causing you to get stuck on the lake. I find that the grey lines get leaky at the connections and the cheap black ones do the same. This is one article where you...

    combining a tailfin/powertran with a power pro 3.

You are right ,but in this case, the use of the feed is mostly in very short bursts to make small corrections. It is not meant to be a constant feed.

    Evinrude 115 fuel leak

You can see in the picture that the zip tie above the fuel enrichener has popped off. That may be the source of your leak

    combining a tailfin/powertran with a power pro 3.

I thought about that a lot. It would be that way if I would use a transformer. The overall amount of energy would be the same just dressed up in a different package. That's why I decided to go with an actuator speed controller. This does not increase the current. It limits the amount of energy...

    combining a tailfin/powertran with a power pro 3.

So about a year ago I bought a tailfin remote control kicker steering setup and I was not overly happy with it because fine tuning the remote control speed was an issue and I still had to do the speed control from the front end of my Islander. So what to do? I bought a powerpro 3 remote control...

    Excessive smoking

Smoke is usually a sign that the fuel/air mixture is a bit too rich. Is your choke hanging up maybe?

    Bravo 3 Engine Alignment

The gimbal bearing is supposed to turn up, down and sideways. Often they seem to be stuck in one position which may not be the right angle. When you put the alignment bar in you should jiggle it around to make sure the gimbal is loose enough to make those movements before you try to shove it all...

    1977 55 HP Evinrude

The float bowls being empty may be pointing to your problem. Quite possibly the fuel in there evaporated, leaving a thin layer of gunk and that gunk is very capable of clogging all the narrow passages. I would let the carbs soak in carburetor cleaner over night and then blow them out with...

    remote control tiller steering question.

It seems that a transformer is not the ticket, but I found a DC speed controller for actuators and I'm going to try that. I hope it works.

    remote control tiller steering question.

Here goes. I have a tailfin (powertran) remote control wireless steering setup and a powerpro 3 wireless speed control both for the same kicker. I need 2 remote control fobs to run this setup which I do not like very much. So I tried to hook the tailfin actuator into the powerpro 3 and now...

Operators manual for 1957 Evinrude fastwin 18 hp model 15020?

I would not touch a Clymer with a 3 yard pole, but in this case, the old Evinrude engines are so simple that usually one look at the pictures will already make things clear.

    Pumping out oil from dipstick

I disagree with the idea of not using a plastic tube going through the dipstick tube . Simply because the dipstick tube does not go all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan and you will never get all the oil out without the plastic tube going all the way down to the bottom of that oil pan

Operators manual for 1957 Evinrude fastwin 18 hp model 15020?

There is the Seloc Johnson/Evinrude Certified textbook for Engines from 1.5 thru 40 hp from 1956 to 1970. In spite of the bad rap that most non factory manuals usually get , this one is very precise and user friendly. I have used it for many years and it gives me everything I need for these...

    Adding a starter to a 1963 Evinrude 28302A 28 hp

The things that racerone did not mention is that you may have to change the flywheel to one that has sprockets. you should also realize that these old old outboards do not have a charging system so you will have to add a battery and wiring and a starter button on your dash.On my '57 there is...
