    25 HP 4 stroke vs 40 HP 2 stroke???

If it were a 30hp I would think it would be very close. I lost the bottom end a little where I couldn’t pull a skiier now I don’t think ( we don’t anyway ) but the fuel savings and being whisper quiet are things that make me not regret it one bit

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

I can’t imagine it’s much different then doing it on land. If it’s shallow enough to stand up that is. Bring the lower to shore to swap the impeller.. just don’t drop anything.

    Tilt / Trim problems :(

MC1 has an unloader switcher of sorts. You probably have an issue with the valve. You should be able to swap to an alpha pump which has the switching internal

    1968 Starcraft Chieftain 21

I wouldn’t even worry about the tilt gauge. Most of the senders don’t work after a year or 2

    1968 Starcraft Chieftain 21

I just did the alpha gen 1 conversion to my ‘71 StarCraft. You will also need the wiring from the Larson. You may or may not be able to get the original gauges to work. You will also need new control cables as the newer motors take longer cables.. When I did mine, I used the fiberglass skin...

Chrysler 9.9 one of the good ones?

Year isn’t listed. I know it’s of the era just before Force. I’ll grab the pic in a few

    25 HP 4 stroke vs 40 HP 2 stroke???

I literally did this exact swap on an aluminum StarCraft Holiday 14. It had a big twin 40. I put on a Suzuki DF25A. They weigh within a couple pounds of each other. The boat’s top speed is almost identical to what it was but hole shot suffered a little. All in all for my purpose it was a...

Chrysler 9.9 one of the good ones?

A later model Chrysler 9.9 popped up a couple towns away for pretty cheap. I’ve been looking for a kicker for my 18’ SC. It’s at least very clean looking with a later cowl with the orange decal. Guy doesn’t want a lot for it and says it runs. Is the 9.9 one that has hard to find parts and...

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

Bellows should be OEM. Sierra could pass as well. Don’t shop on Amazon. Remember that bellows keep your boat from sinking.. the cheap ones are known for dry rot and QC issues

    Older Boats

A 1960’s runabout doesn’t belong on the ocean… a 1960s fiberglass runabout will need a full restoration if it hasn’t been… a 1960’s tin runabout will need less to restore but still probably needs a deck and transom. All of these boats would have a cable drum steering system. It works fine and...

    Bilge pump wiring backwards?

Must have a diode on the motor. Would be used for voltage protection so that it didn’t spark while spinning down

    Leak in aluminum boat

Cabelas brands it. It’s a plastic wax that melts into rivits

    Outboard motor upgrade?

Yup. Only to subtract the weight from the total capacity accordingly. Since even with a 2 stroke that needs to be calculated.

    Leak in aluminum boat

There is also a torch wax that will seal rivits and gluvit which will bandaid the leaks ( good idea regardless if you have it down far enough to do it )

    Bilge pump wiring backwards?

Yup. I dunno when the standard came out but I noticed that my 1971 SC dash wiring wasn’t standard. It is now, since I used a 1986 donor boat and dash wiring

    Bilge pump wiring backwards?

Brown is positive. It’s a simple electric motor so it’ll run backwards reversed

    Outboard motor upgrade?

it’s legal to replace a 2 stroke with a 4 stroke of the maximum hp. The maximum load capacity is factored with the outboard. It will effect how many extra coolers and crap you bring aboard… also note that a person is 150 lbs per USCG, so you may have less legal person’s capacity based on your...

Does anyone remember when car & boat engines only had.

I had a ‘50 Plymouth.. one of the revolutionary marketing terms was one of the first vehicles to have key start ( no floor start or push button)
