    MCM260 Problem

In addition to the throttle control sometimes there is an additional hole closer the throttle shaft which will give full open on the carburetor. Does your engine still have the original ignition? Or has it been converted to a points style system.

The purpose will be as SD said to keep the oil in the drive cool because the exhaust water is too hot. As long as the impeller blades are still in place is all that is needed to flow water through it.

    Possible trim line snowballing nightmare?

From what you posted it appears to be aa alpha series. You do not have to remove the engine to replace the hoses. I re sealed the rams on my last boat without removing them. I just removed the rear cross pin then unscrewed the caps and pulled out the rams. Just be sure to use a flare nut...

    Possible trim line snowballing nightmare?

The block under the gimbal housing is held on with 2 stainless nuts. Sometimes the gasket survives. Pry it down and then you can get to the 2 hoses. What model do you have? Do both the hoses attach to the front of the ram?

If you add an engine pulley driven pump and draw water through the bottom just connect the incoming water from the drive with a “T” or “Y” style fitting and of course a valve where the hull connection will be. This way you will be able to continue using the flush out on the pivot cap.

Try to slide the white plastic sleeve off. With a block of wood on the table tap the bottom of the extended stainless down which should drive the cooler up and out.

    Overheating AQ125a leaking cooling sustem

If the bolts are causing the problem you might need some heat around the head of the bolts. As far as the cover it will take some gentle persuasion with some thin wide screwdrivers.

    Tilt / Trim problems :(

In the brush head cover of the motor is where the thermal switch is located, it is part of the cover. Before you switch to the used pump spare be sure it does run. The 3 bolts that mount the pump body to the inner transom plate can be somewhat of a problem depending on the boat’s construction...

    Tilt / Trim problems :(

The most forward port on the trim block under the gimbal housing is the up circuit. On the rams the most forward port is the up no matter which side. There are no right and left rams. You have the hoses crossed. Just remember front to front, back to back.

    Tilt / Trim problems :(

Did you disconnect both hoses on the ram? The high pressure hose on the bottom of the pump tends to loosen over time.

Where to buy 1980s tilt trim o ring kits

Try matching them up at a NAPA store. Also a hydraulic repair shop and if there is a aircraft supply in your area that could be another source.

Time for my first bellow change, tips?

The best tool for the job is a 1/4” drive 5/16” universal socket or a 1/4” universal with a short 5/16” 1/4” drive socket & driver handle.

The bolts going through the cover can really be A PITA. Try heating the outside of each bolt up and down on the cover and exhaust housing area while “gently” working the bolt back and forth. When they break most times they are not frozen in the exhaust housing. One way that I used to do if...

1981 120 mercruiser broken rocker arm

I have had brand new engines break a rocker arm. Never had a problem after replacing them. Make sure the stud is not partially pulled out. Use a straight edge or just eyeball the one that had the problem. Check the compression to make sure that a valve did not float and from a bent valve.

The stream is so you know the water pump in the drive is working. With the boat in the water the stream should put a dent in your finger. Also with the boat in the water the hose to the thermostat housing should put out enough pressure just above idle that you cannot hold it back with your...

Motor knocking. Mercruiser 3.0 alpha 1

Earlier inline engines had fiber camshaft gears. Later they went to aluminum which is noisier than the fiber ones. I cannot 100% say that yours is either so the only way would be to pull the cover. Cut off the remaining pan gasket flush with the block and remove the cover to pan gasket...

wires have all been taken off dist ?

Distributor rotation is counterclockwise. When looking down on the distributor cap most times #1 will end up @ 1 o’clock position. You must first make sure the engine is in the #1 firing position. Remove the #1 spark plug which is on the starboard side spin the engine a little at a time with...

    Ford 302 issues

If the gauges are reading higher than before then you need to start looking for a bad ground. It might just be the ground connection behind the instrument panel. Try running a separate 10 ga wire from the negative battery post to the ground post behind the instrument panel. Check each wire...
