    99 Monterey 276 Transom Replacement

Is the transom wood wet? but not rotted? I can see it is dark in a few places, but you can probably kill it if the wood is still solid. Letting it all dry (really dry out) out before you glass back over will be important.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

My un-scientific survey indicates that about 10% of the Dodge 2500 series have the 4.10 differential option (as per the Monroney label , i.e. 'Window Sticker'). I have yet to find a Ford 250 that has the 4.30 differential. So, my easier path may be the 2014 or newer Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi, 4x4...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

FWIW - I am have found a few Ram 2500 trucks (2014 - 2018 model years) with the 6.4 Gasser and the 4.10 Differential. Per the original window sticker. Towing rating is 15K + lbs. So, when the time comes it might be an easier find in the Ram line-up.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, the pricing seemed high to me . . . I thought it was about double the cost of the Formula 330.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, insurance would be a concern. My Admiral does commercial insurance, so she can get the rates of any potential truck, so the $$$ is known in advance. BTW - She told me that my boat insurance is $2,300/yr o_O

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Yes, the 4.3 differentials are almost non-existent. Thinking I could convert or swap out the rear-end, if I had to. I did find something similar in the Dodge Ram (6.4 Gasser w/ 4.1 differential option listed on the window sticker), but only 1 truck so far. Probably will matter when the time...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Thanks for the comments so far . . . I'm thinking to stay under the 26K figure. As I look at the towing spec's it seems that the published GCWR is reduced by the recommended max tongue weight. Essentially the tongue weight takes away from any residual carrying capacity of the truck. At...

    Drive destroyed

The retail price is $19,982.00, but it looks like you can get it for a mere $18,183

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

. . of course, I'm not sure if the 26,001 lb. reg applies if you are hauling for your own personal use . . . Just thinking 'out loud' . . .

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

Not having read the entirety of the thread, but my initial thoughts were the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the riser/elbow. I would do a cylinder leak test to rule out a head gasket and then do a maintenance iteration on the exhausts cleaning out the passages, prepping the mating...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

I'd go for an F-450, but I think that there are CDL implications, if I read the DOT reg's correctly . . . https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration/commercial-drivers-license/drivers I know that the 26,001 lbs. is like a magic number to stay under. It looks like the F-450 has a GVWR of 11,000...

Anyone fly Frontier Airlines? Nickel and Dime ya Airlines?

The Admiral makes most of our travel arrangements. However, I restrict her to booking on the major carriers (American, JetBlue, Delta, United, etc.). I'm not sure you can travel that sort of distance (FL - NY) for that amount of money ($39), so you have to wonder . . . JMO When the Admiral...

    MEFI 3 diacom capabilities

That would be a good question to ask the folks at Rinda (the company that makes Diacom) I assume you have the software? I know that some of the adapters are pricey, but the older ones (MEFI-3, etc.) are not too bad. It's been a while since I used the Diacom on my MEFI-1 engines . . ...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

 I know . . . I've thought about it, and I believe I've seen others doing haul-out. Not sure I'd want to do that though.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

As I mentioned, I don't tow very often. Maybe 4 times a year. I just want to get something that is spec'd to tow the load for highway travel and in case something bad happens. EDIT: I got the trailer and current tow vehicle because the local boat hauling was getting pricey and hard to book...

    Anchor line

That sounds pretty deep to be anchoring (30-50 ft). If you have a decent amount of chain, then you'll need less scope as you go deeper. So, you might be feeding 100-150 feet of rode. If you are in a high current or high wind situation, then you'll be giving more scope. 3/8" braided should be...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Thanks guys . . . lots of things to consider. I did want to get to 15,000 lbs towing rating, since boats tend to weight more than what one would think or hope for. My reason for upgrading is to have a truck that is spec'd to pull the weight. The only published data that I have on the...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Greetings, I've been thinking about selling my current truck and getting a bigger/better truck. My current 2012 F-150 EcoBoost is pretty well outmatched for my rig, which comes in at about 14,000 lbs. (boat + trailer). The dry weight of the boat is 11,080 lbs and the trailer is 1,600 lbs...
