    did you make sure that each lifter was put back to the exact same lobe? flat tappet lifters mate for life. if you swap lobes and lifters, you usually take out the lobe and the lifters.

    I wouldnt remove the thermostat. it is used as a mixing valve on I/O's without it, the block gets too much water flow and the exhaust doesnt get enough.

    at low speeds and the low water flow of a hose while on the muffs, most of the water will come out the idle relief ports. most likely the bit of plastic is what is left of your flappers

    Besides the compression test, to check motor health, all the rubber bits in the exhaust needs replacement. You burned the flapper and the rubber couplings when the exhaust went from 220 with water to 1000 without water I would also pull the lower and see how bad you toasted the raw water pump...

    remember, short antennas are pretty much useless for reaching any distance. for VHF, you want the tallest antenna you can afford. the longer the antenna, the greater (higher) the gain that mount allows you to fold the antenna down when you put the cover on.
