Bolts for water pump are rusting

Wire brush them and paint them with black rustoleum. likely the paint on them got nicked off when you changed it. Leak into bilge, bellows?

before you rip out the bearing you just put in turn the engine 90 degrees - every once in a while you see someone with a coupler that is a tad eccentric. keep turning it 90 degrees you may be able to get better witness marks and better adjustment. What did your grease marks look like? As...

    Raw water pump 7.4 454

you need to get the cam specs first. Dont mess around with it as it will ruin the motor fast of the exhaust is wrong. Even if you have to pull the cam to find the number on it it is worth it to do it right. here is a basic write up on it. Height of riser is not the issue but length where...

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

would assume what you are seeing is either previously mentioned grease build up or maybe some burrs on the splines on driveshaft or coupler. the whole thing is way less precise than some make it out to be. what you describe adjusting up and down only making it worse shows you got it as good as...

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

those orings hold the inner race of the gimbal on the driveshaft so they spin together the single one keeps grease in the coupler for those couplers that have a zerk for the splines

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

a couple of things that have hung me up when almost all the way in - the orings on the driveshaft- are these greased up, and when I have been doing alignment work one can build up a lot of grease in the coupler and take some effort to squeeze out. Did you check the alignment i ok? While it...

    Upper gearcase pinion bearing replacement

If you change the bearings and races you will need to set up rolling torque and reshim the gears. Slide hammer on jaw puller will get the races out. A little heat on the housing helps

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

yes normal to have to center the bearing by whacking the adjustment tool in 4 directions (i think this is in the manual), and adjust the alignment after doing a gimbal bearing.
