    Critters in My Boat

    I use strawberry netting , a light weight netting to keep birds off fruit crops , I just hang it about the place on their flight paths and the birds hate it (coz they get stuck in it and die slowly while I watch 😁 ) and generally stay clear of it .

    How much play do you have . These things have ball bearings and they do have a bit of clearance...like a couple of thou ....the sort of clearance you may feel if you give it a wobble but if you can see movement its probly to much , and its an engine apart job to replace the bearing.

    One night wife and I were driving over the Crown range ( highest main road in NZ ) and got waved down by some guy ( with an hysterical woman and screaming kids in the car ) broken down . Turns out the in tank fuel pump had crapped out ( easily found because he told me he had just fixed it 🙄)...

    If there is any movement between the shift lever and bell crank it will get worse with use. I think further drilling will be difficult as your 1st hole is way off centre. Good luck 🙂

    Sometimes ebay just has a generic pic of an item ,usually small print says "actual item may differ from pic " but yeah , sorta puts a bit of strain on the confidence ( I have a set of rings for the "other " 4hp Yamaha )

    Easy outs are not magic , gotta be careful , if you use to big an easy out you risk flaring out the end of the bolt jamming it in even tighter. I like the straight fluted ones, bang em in hard to cut some grooves and then pull it out and the bolt will spring back a bit then refit the easy out...

    Yeah airshot ,that was my feeling re the lack of water in the boat. Just doesnt stack up.

    My boat is mid 80's ,4.2m fibreglass and apart from being covered in dust and cat paw prints its like new hull wise.

    Yeah I think I will get a new tilt tube this time round I ruined 2 x 20 bore shotgun bore brushes cleaning it out last time and used it twice ,sat for a winter in a shed and now seized again Huh , the tilt tube nuts /thread is ⅞" unc , I thought it would be metric coz everything else is.

    Yeah well your not wrong about that , I just went out and give it another whack with a copper hammer and it feels welded in there. I forgot to get a pic of my pusher .....maybe tomorrow 🙂.

    dpsm outdrive holds pressure after seal repair but not vacuum.

    I always put grease on a new seal , between the lips if it is either a double or triple lip seal. Seals are like pump impellers in that it only takes a few seconds to wipe them out if they are run dry .

    Psychic too Scott ? No mention of age in op , nor any indication of actual usage. If the cable has worn thru ( as you guess ) why does the helm need replaced ? If the cable inner has worn thru ( how would you know ) simply loosen the cable outer at both ends and rotate about its axis ½ a turn...
