    83' 115hp Mercury, prop slip

I replaced the Gasket twice(with Sealer). When it started leaking the 3rd Time, the Dealer ordered me a new Cover n/c. I put it together Dry, and no more leak. The Inline 6s Never had a Thermostat. They did have a Passage that allowed the Heated Water to get very close to the Reed Blocks thus...

There is a lot of Shear with that interface. Was that a Brass Gear? What Metal was the Worm?

    Waterlogged foam?

No, that will add more weight and put the Engine further back, making it sit even lower. Looking at the Upper Mounting Bolts, they look like they are Tapering Inward, and there appears to be Cracks along the top of the transom Was the Spashwell Partially painted? It appears that way, perhaps to...

    Prop size question

In the Early 70s the 140 used a 2:1 drive. The 1.98 while pretty much the same Ratio, reduced the Frequency of repeated Contact Pattern on the Gears, extending their Life Year the Engine is Important, as the WOT Rpm ranges has varied over the past 50+ yrs.

    1967 Evinrude Carb Removal

Distributor? The Ignition System is located under the Flywheel. I haven't removed the Flywheel when taking the Carb off, unless I was also replacing Ignition Parts on the 1960s 40hps

Lower unit gear oil - 2001 Evinrude 150HP FICHT

Don't use standard Gear Oils, as the Marine Versions have more EP Additive to help the Tiny Gears(compared to Gears in an Auto/Truck Dif) in the Gearcases survive.

No water coming out of the exhaust on muffs

180-185 is too Hot for a Raw Water Cooled Marine Engine. You didn't stick an Automotive Thermostat in it at some point?

Can I put a 28 hp Johnson on my 14' Aluminum Sea King?

Where I am(Canada), there are NO Laws that make it Illegal to put more Hp on a Boat than the plate recommends. There might be some Issues regarding Insurance, but I always told them the Boat had more HP(sometimes 50hp more) on it than the Plate, and I was never refused by an underwriter.

Can I put a 28 hp Johnson on my 14' Aluminum Sea King?

I would keep the 4 stroke, as an Anchor. The 28 would not weigh 170 lbs, I doubt it would even weigh 130. It would about the same as the 35hp below, which was about 122 lbs. It was a 20" model We had 2 14 ft Mirrocrafts, one with a 25, the other had a 35. They were rated for 35hp though
