    Yes. A couple of drops of enamel should do it. Or, place a piece of electrical tape over it. Personally, wouldn't worry about it. It should last for years and years.

    just a couple # of air pressure with the gearcase in a tub of water, look for bubbles. Seals are available as a set. Not sure you will find individual seals.

    As said above, make sure you measure the diameter of the driveshaft because they were made with two different shafts. Have to get the corresponding impeller. There should be no water in the gearcase. And no lube above the gearcase. You can pressure test the gearcase with 2-4# of air, no more. A...

    IF exhaust is getting into the engine, it is not getting in through that cowl seal. It is getting in from below the powerhead. From the exhaust gasket / spacer plate / exhaust tube.

    If you don't know when the when the water pump impeller was last changed, start there. And thermostat. A repair manual that covers the motor should get you through the impeller change. A Clymer manual is ok. Factory manual ok. Selor manual no so good.

    OK, but still likely a hollow spot there, never seen curved transom wood. Gonna have to get in there and check, and probably add a big form fitted backing plate, then anchor with thru bolts.

    won't hurt to pop open the control box and grease the pivot points and cable ends with a little light grease. I wouldn't worry about the cables themselves.

    Sounds about normal to me. Throttle increase is further forward so that you can put it into gear, without accelerating. But my neutral is a noon. The boat doesn't go out at midnight. :)
