Update 9-25 the grinding continues… who knew that snow angles can be seen in Sept. I see now why those that have done it previously hate the job… progress slow but sure

Gelcoat/Paint comes off to the touch

Compounding the gelcoat…. Then waxing the gelcoat will help restore the boat. I think you’re talking about oxidation of your 30 year old boat. there are many posts on the forum relating the “how to“ on this process.

Using warped plywood for bench seats

you could screw it to a straight board on one side… glass the opposite…once cured do the other side. Just a thought. Since you have a template you could just get new plywood… might me less time consuming.

    1993 Wellcraft Eclipse196S Rebuild

Have you taken core samples on your transom? 1/4” drill bit from the inside. check from the bottom to the top. Go in about half inch. Three samples (low middle and high near the keyhole) check what comes out. do the same on he motor mounts.

trim pump runs but no up or down

While the cylinders are apart you may want to consider rebuilding. Inexpensive and a great sense of security knowing they are rebuilt. Just my 2 cents… hope you find the issue. Good luck

Update 9-10 Dug a little further in removing bilge hose, fuel vent tube , fuel hose, holding tank (with 3 inches of leftover crap still in tank from PO 🤮), macerator pump and capped off the fuel tank inlets. Moved all electrical out of the way. I also removed the steering actuator. Hope to...

    Actuator rebuild

I’m looking to rebuild my power steering actuator. It’s from a 1990 alpha 1 gen 1. Has anyone been successful at rebuilding? Anything special that I should be aware of? Searching the net seems like most parts are no longer made. Im assuming it’s mostly seals and cleaning. I’ve removed it from...

    Exterior vs interior plywood

All, looking for advice on transom replacement materials. Since the wood will be sealed with resin and clothed over what’s the benefit of using exterior grade plywood vs interior grade for transom replacement? I see that the exterior is constructed with water proof glue. Any reason you can’t use...

Agreed Chuck! The bulkhead behind the fuel tank is dry but not good wood. It will come out and be replaced. Can’t wait to see what the fuel tank looks like… let alone the stringers along side it. Btw forward of the fuel tank( another compromising area) looks to be good. PO didn’t really use the...

Todays update. Happy Labor Day to all! demo on the motor mount stringers went well. Well….. went well since they were both close to rotted. Pics show the decapitation of starboard and port side motor mounts. Piece by piece…. so glad I took the initiative to dig in. They were toast.

    1990 Bayliner 2651 resto

After much contemplating I will be cutting the tops off the engine mount stringers and replacing core. Before I went further I found a video on you tube where someone built a jig to get the proper( well close) measurements of stringer height and length relative to the transom. Bolts to the...
