    Tearing down transom assembly

Got my new gimbal bearing installed. It is the sealed kind...that's what came in the Quicksilver kit. I've still got the old one - it still feels good and is the kind with a hole so you can grease it. Not sure if pulling the old bearing out (by the inner race) damages it to the point I should...

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

@Kubaat3lover - I mocked it back up to show what I did to drive the old bushing out. I just hammered on the top of the threaded rod lightly and the bushing came right out.

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

I'll try to snap some pics tonight showing what I've got done so far.

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

Thanks for the tips guys. Shift shaft is already out, and I used some 3/8" threaded rod and an 11mm 1/4" drive socket to hammer out the original bushing - worked like a charm. It didn't even take much force to knock it out. I've ordered 23-805041A2 to replace it with.

    Stringer contour question

Save your time...don't try to match the contour. Just fill the gap with PB.

Problem with paint after refreshing Alpha One Gen 2

I'm trying Majic Tractor Truck and Implement Enamel primer and gloss black top coat with their catalyst hardener. It laid down well (I reduced the top coat with naphtha and sprayed with an HVLP gun)...we'll just have to see how it holds up.

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

The storage is not worth giving up. Just seal the edges of the opening with fiberglass.

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

Pretty easy to hammer out the old bushing and hammer the new one in? I plan on trying it without buying the "special tool".

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

**edit** after googling the PN you provided, it looks like the wide part of the new bushing you're showing hangs down into the exhaust cavity and that's where the seals go. I'll order the part and replace it. Thanks for the quick response.

Alpha One Gen 1 Shift Shaft Seal

I'm rebuilding my Alpha One Gen 1 transom assembly (SN 0B667146) and ordered new seals and gaskets for it from Mercruiser Parts. I was going to reassemble the new shift shaft seal into the bell housing and the part I ordered (PN 26-8164641) won't fit. I've already thrown the old seal out, so I...

    Tearing down transom assembly

More Mercruiser parts showed up today. Old steel lower pin on the left, new aluminum lower pin on the right: I got the new seals installed in the lower part of the gimbal ring where the pin goes.

    fiberglassing in new floor

I routered the edges of some boards so the fiberglass would go around the edge. Like the tops of the stringers and the edges of the deck around the bilge. Fiberglass doesn't like to lay around sharp corners, which is why you fillet with PB on inside corners and round over the edges of the wood...

    fiberglassing in new floor

I agree with @Emerger - watch JMink's video series on YouTube where he rebuilds his boat. Also Friscoboater's Garage on YouTube - watch his Sea Ray restoration. Take notes. It's a lot of hours over video but these two channels gave me the confidence to do my boat. Your order of operations for...

1992 Malibu Sunsetter Euro F3 rebuild seeking advice

I just coated mine in resin and let them cure, bedded them, then did 2 layers of 1708 for tabbing and one layer of 1708 to cap them. I think as long as you are fully encapsulating, you're good. I think the CSM is overkill here. I also only get evenings and weekends to work on my project, so I...

    fiberglassing in new floor

3M 5200 is a marine sealant. Peanut butter is thickened polyester resin. You usually add Cabosil (aka fumed silica) to thicken the resin, and 1/4" chopped fiberglass fibers for strength. You mix it to a peanut butter-like consistency, and use it to fill gaps, holes, etc. Drill the holes...

    Tearing down transom assembly

Pulled tape this morning. 12 hours drying and the paint is fully hard (fingernail doesn't leave an impression). It's not a show piece, but it's certainly good enough. I've now got the confidence to move forward with painting the bell housing and the gimbal housing.

    fiberglassing in new floor

You should drill the holes. They're easy to fill with resin or 5200 if the shavings come back dry, but believe me...I know the feeling. You're afraid of what you're going to find. Tapping with a hammer or any object is not going to tell you anything. A rotten stringer sounds like a new one...

    fiberglassing in new floor

Have you looked at the conditions of the stringers and transom (by drilling core samples and evaluating the wood chips)? The experts on this site will tell you that the floor is the last thing to rot after the stringers and transom, and this was true on my boat. It would be a shame to put all...
