    pressure in upper gear case

The sealing surface on the ball gear has small porosities where the seal lips contact it. This is where 90% of the water enters the gear case. As in post #3 the gear case goes from positive to negative pressure which allows water to enter the gear case.

Oil pressure on 1986 OMC cobra 5.7

The engine temperature even on the flushout should not go over 160*. You may have some water pump impeller parts blocking the cooling system. Just be sure that the temperature stays @ 160 when you put the boat back in the water.

Engine wont shut off with key

I hope you have a 12 volt test light. That is one of the best tools for quickly finding electrical problems. That will help you find where the current is coming from.

Engine wont shut off with key

On the ignition switch remove the wires that go to the gauges, one of them is the one that is feeding back to the ignition switch. Whichever one has 12volts is where you start tracing to find the source.

Engine wont shut off with key

Disconnect the purple/yellow wire or the one marked “I” on the solenoid and check if the engine continues to run. Sometimes the small ignition “bypass” wire inside the solenoid will break and continue to feed the ignition circuit.

    Need advice from experienced people.

The crack in the head probably caused the piston to crack since water does not compress. The head is probably very thin in that area and there may not be enough material left to heat weld. The only weld that may hold is a “cold weld” or ”lace weld” which is how cast iron can be repaired with a...

    Hard Starting after Anchoring 30min+

Do you have to only get Ethanol added fuel? It could be boiling out. Next time after doing the same run and stop remove the flame arrestor then have someone pump the throttle with the ignition off, look down the air horn and watch if there is any fuel squirting from the accelerator jet...

    pressure in upper gear case

The “O”rings at the rear of the upper gear case are under the cast support of the steering worm retainer. Do not try to un screw the threaded retainer under the support. It is bonded with Loctite and a special tool is required. The quad ring seal behind the small steering gear can be pulled...

Starter engaging with one bolt installed, spins but does not engage when both bolts are installed

There should be support bracket on the brush end of the starter, either with a 1/4” 20 stud on the upper field frame through bolt or a 5/16” stud that attaches cast iron bracket on the outer frame to another stud in the engine block if your starter is the early Delco Type.

    pressure in upper gear case

Just be sure that the Permatex is on all the sealing surfaces and not on the impeller running surface. Also on the bottom outer surface of the pump housing to the swivel bearing engagement cover. Be very sure that the 1/2 moon key has a tight fit in the pump shaft, a tap with a ball peen hammer...

    1980 3.0L strange overheat issue

It is acting like the head gasket is leaking just enough pressure to over come the incoming water from the pump. Add a short length of clear hose between the thermostat housing inlet and the incoming water hose. If the head gasket is leaking you will see the water disappear. The only other...
