    Try laying a large punch across the bearing cup then be sure to hit the punch in the center to get it started. Even better if you have a thick piece of steel handy. Use eye protection also.

    Since you plan on removing the drive take a close look where the slider travels into the bell housing. You might just have a build up of marine crud preventing the slider from full forward travel. Also a good thing to do is to clean out the cavity in the drive where the slider travels for reverse.

    How do you know when to replace the tensioner or belt?

    The only thing ever happens to the tensioner is the bearing in the pulley starts making noise. If cracks start showing on the underside i=of the belt then it is time to change it.

    If both ends of your cable have a 10-32 thread then any 3300 series cable will work. Just google 3300 control cable. If there is a marine store near you they should have it in stock. The Supreme version are much smoother and may be the original Volvo version.

    The last Buick V6 was used by OMC in 72. From 73 to 86 all OMC engines were light blue. It is in fact a 3.8 chebbie. I Re powered a few of boats with that one. The core plug could be replaced by a expanding rubber one available at any auto store. Good luck.
