    Monmouth's 1979 Starcraft Kingfisher Rebuild

Okay, okay, I'm home, I'm home! Doc appointment today... Yes, my KF has a 20" transom. Yours probably does too. :) Here's how to measure:

Oh man, 28% would be awesome! The humidity here got down to 53% just minutes before the rains came again this afternoon. Right now it's 72 degrees and 99% humidity outside. And this is happening. More rain. Great.

I tried. I really did. Got the console sanded while I was waiting for my buddy (safety monitor) to arrive. The console needed very little sanding. It was much smoother than the boat hull. I barely swiped the 800 grit sandpaper across the surface and it was perfect. My bud arrived...

Guys, I have an opportunity to buy this dual air tank setup for fitty-bux. Cheap! Those 11 gallon tanks are $40/each at HF. And the 1/2" plywood is probably another $25-30 or so. None of the fittings or hoses are included but the box is, so it's just the tanks and the box. Even so, the...

More work done today. The boat is now ready for color paint. Both sides of the hull sanded. My wife helped the boy and me lower the hull. The new position will make better access for correct spraying.

So no work from Monday to Thursday this week due to weather, doc appointments and no safety chaperone. Yesterday started ugly then got perfect for the bulk of the day. And I had a really bad health day such that I could barely get off the couch again. Tired of that carp. :mad...

From what I've read and seen on videos, only a Positive Air Pressure Respirator will work well enough. Even that is only something like 97% effective if I recall correctly. I think I read that a SCBA might work under some very specific circumstances but I can't find the link. I read a lot...

Yep, it's definitely good to get paint onto the boat. :) And I'm going to sand some of it off! My inexperience with the spray gun left some minor issues which I'll have to correct. I've also decided to skip using the catalyst/hardener for the paint. I spent a lot of time today reading about...

This is how the boat looks on this rainy morning. No painting today.

    Monmouth's 1979 Starcraft Kingfisher Rebuild

Looking good! Wiring is so much fun. I originally used pool noodles as wire conduits on my KF. They tuck nicely up under the gunnels. At this point in my project I'm going to use actual wire loom, but will put those into the pool noodles and then tuck the whole shebang up under the...

And the other side is done! :D Took longer to clean up than to do the work.

Hey guys, do I need to mask off the hull where it will be black before I put on the white color coat? Any white overspray will be covered by the black anyway. Since I'll be painting the black on after the white, is it acceptable to just leave it unmasked while I'm doing the color coats? It...

Got to work and then ran outta paint! D'oh! But we made good progress thus far and I'm lovin' me some LVLP!! :friendly_wink: Having lunch now while watching fishing shows and after we finish eating we'll go buy more paint so that we can get back at it later. Here's where we are now.

Boo-yah! We have primer! I went out first thing this morning to check status and the primer is dry, smooth and flat! No interaction with the SE primer like I had with the rattle can variant. The LVLP spray gun did the job. Yay! :D Just waiting on the weather now. Humidity is...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The LVLP gun worked really well. Almost no overspray and laid the material down nicely. No big clouds of paint hanging in the air. Cleanup was a little tougher than when I used the rattle cans... which I simply threw into the trash! Tomorrow I'll know how well the gray primer worked...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the console sanded and wiped as well as completely blowing the hull with compressed air, followed by wiping with a tack cloth. The components are now ready for painting. Scrounged around and found adapters to connect the new stuff to my compressor. Sealed the connections with Teflon tape...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Went to HF and picked up a new respirator this morning, along with 100 paint filters and a water/oil separator for the compressor. Plus a freebie "grabber" which is worth what I paid for the thing. I printed out the spray gun manual from a .pdf file and am heading out to the garage now...

Received the Sprayit paint gun kit today. Neato! :D The cardboard box size is 17.75 x 16.25 x 4.5.

Yesterday my old bud and I went to a local metal shop and I had them cut some 0.063" aluminum sheet for me so that I can make end caps for the "new" dual seat storage boxes. They let us go back through the shop and it was huge! So cool to see guys working with the big machines making...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I got back to work today. Once it became clear that my bud wasn't going to have time to paint the boat and I had completed my LVLP research and purchase process, it was time to do something. Besides, I got pretty bored sitting around watching TV; even when I was sick. :grumpy: So this...
