    I don't know much about it, but I suspect that if you cut away the cowling on an air cooled engine ii would overheat..

    Looks like half the cowling is cut away. I had one similar many years ago and it was basically an air cooled weed eater type engine.

    Must be a major leak if water is showing up in the monitor jug.. I would drain the drive ASAP.

    Buy an access plate, cut hole in floor to fit, replace sender and install access plate although you probably have bigger problems if the tank is leaking..

    You have a good start and don't want to compromise with someone so simple as filler..if you have the coin you might consider using full epoxy.

    That's a good concept but be sure it doesn't absorb water like bondo.. I've seen bondo turn to mush in below waterline applications..
